Ignorance on the part of some parents

For the better part of a few weeks, there has been a heated debate concerning an immoral gathering of young people branded ’Project X’ with a unique function where there are no rules. So the police have been on the lookouts for any such upcoming events where the majority of Kenyans felt that the young ones were being introduced to some form of porn lifestyle.

Now that the public was well aware of such undesirable events, just about a week ago the police were tiptoed of such like event in a certain residential house. So they raided the house and arrested about 140 minors with ages from seventeen. But parents of these young men and women faulted the police for arresting their children who were just having fun. They refuted the claims that it was a ‘Project X’ gathering with a parent who was interviewed saying that it was just with some crazy party with children drinking alcohol, smoking but there was no orgies happening.

One wonders how some parents think that teenagers taking alcohol and smoking are amounting to them having fun. This would definitely have led to other things which the parents might not even be aware of or are even too ignorant to check on what their children are up to. Most of the young people are losing track of their lives in future for failing to have someone who can talking to them. But if as a parent, you show your child that having fun is drinking alcohol and smoking, and then what kind of foundation are you setting for him or her?

Let the children know that there is time for everything and they need to take control of their lives. Let them know that there is enjoying life and there is ruining a life and even as they have fun there is their future ahead.

Relationship, Parents With Their Children

When we talk of a relationship that exists between parents and their children, some will say it fully depends on individuals and others will prefer not even talking about it.

Let’s look at it this way; giving birth is like a vocation which calls for a lot of commitment from both parents. So as a parent, it’s your role to take your full time job of parenting seriously if your children are to grow up into responsible adults.

But then there are some incidents happening around us which make us wonder why all the mess with most children being a thorn of flesh to their parents. I or we ask who is to blame for all this.

Is it the current generation that seems to gradually transform as years advance by or is it the parents who have failed flatly in their parenting roles? What happened to the qualities of a good child who most of all respected his or her parents? I sometimes feel like asking whether most children are becoming the crazier or the more mad or even both crazy and mad.

Just a few days ago, it was in the news of a young man who openly scolded his mother for failing to take him through college. So he first burned her entire house down but the villagers came to her rescue, did a fundraising for her so that she could build another house. After she had withdrawn the cash so that she could buy materials for her new house, the son attacked her hitting her with a blunt object and she instantly died.

This is such a sad incident that just shows the extent of a lot to be desired relationships that may so far exist between some parents and their children. Children ought to know that for their parents giving birth to them is enough reason to be appreciated without even expecting other favors.

A Play: Parents and Their Daughter With a Heated Argument

It is in the morning when this lady who has just completed her secondary education enters the house and finds her parents having their breakfast. Their daughter was furious about something that nobody knew about as she said that she no longer needed to be associated with any of her parents. She further added that she was considering scrapping off the name of her father from her national Identity card (I.D).

So her mother pleaded with the daughter not to talk bad of her father since he loved her but she cut her short and told the mother that she was also in the same boat with him to make her life miserable and unbearable. She could not listen to her mother and went discrediting their role of raising them up as their child. All hell broke loose after she said that she was leaving after feeding their crops to the animals and her mother filled with anger started beating her up. She screamed a little and then started laughing, which made them wonder if she was okay.

Then her grandfather heard a commotion and came in to see what was happening and the lady said that she has problems with her parents who do appreciate things she does and do not listen to her. As the old man tries to calm them down, her mother tells him to go try talking to her because it seems that they relate together too well. Then the old man tells to go and wait for him in his compound and she leaves shouting that he needs to talk to her parents whom she knows are up to no good.

So the old man tells them to be very careful when it comes to their daughter because they can lose her forever if she continues to feel unwanted. This play is a reflection of what transpires between parents and their children; it shows they should be ready to listen to one another.

A Mother Of Two In Search For Her Kins

It was a weekend radio show where this lady sought assistance to be able to trace her immediate family members. She is now married and with two children. She grew up in a children’s home together with her elder brother from about the age of maybe four years to eighteen years. She said when they were very small children, their mother used to pay them a visit and her brother would always cry a lot on seeing her leave. She also said that she is stronger than her brother who is very emotional at the mention of a family that they both not know about.

She said that at one when still in a children’s home, the management had offered to help them find their family but it was such a bad experience since they went asking anyone they could find at a random if they recognized the two children. At the same time, after completing high school, she had also visited the children’s home with the hope of finding information concerning their family but she didn’t find the concerned officer who was away. She was asked to go back after about one month of which she never did.

She said that she has always felt the need to know where she came from and who her parents are as she can still remember her other brother and sisters but she has always been feeling like she’s not ready yet. She also said she’s content with her husband’s family who treats her like their own daughter and so wonders why her family never comes looking for her. What’s more she could remember all the other children by names and her brother claims that he could remember that he had a twin brother and at times he experiences moments of something happening to his twin brother.

Now she was here on national radio hoping to know where she really comes from and the presenter urged the listeners from the home are that this lady claimed to have come, to help out in identifying her family.
