Trust is not something that you get that easily but you have to earn it by having this character in you that make people believe in you. I have a story which clearly indicates that the minute anyone loses trust in you, then this alone can make you lose everything including the confidence that the others had in you. So there is this company that was out looking for young men to fill the post of an internal auditor. The management that this post was specifically suitable for a male candidate due to complexity of the work load.
So on this material day, twelve applicants who had applied for the job were invited for an interview. They were all interviewed and what remained in the final lot were three guys who had qualified both academically and whatever else that the interviewers were looking at. The three guys were really qualified academically but there was still room to decide who to pick out of the three.
So it was over lunch hour and the three guys were invited for a meal in the company’s eating place. It was self-service but there was a short notice that there were small number of sausages and so everyone was only required to pick one only. So one of interviewees guys loved sausages very much and so he looked around if anyone was watching him and when it was clear no one was seeing he took two sausages and hid them beneath some other food and he placed one on top. But he was not aware that there were cameras all over recording everyone’s actions and movement.
So when the lunch break was over, the Human resource called this guy and told him that he had initially thrilled him as he interviewed him for the job and was about to stick with him as the best. He went on and told him that but after seeing what he did during lunch, he definitely changed his mind and so he would not get the job because his integrity is questionable. He told him that this behavior alone had cost him an opportunity to land on the job. This story teaches us that the small things that we overlook mean a lot.
