Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

Unlike other posts, this article aims at finding a summary of really weird facts happening somewhere worldwide. This is just verified tidbits collected and is intended just for fun. Any other conclusion is not allowed.

Naming in USA

In America, there are 84 people named as LOL. Sounds funny but true.

(Note: LOL means Laughing Out Loud)

Number connection to fate

In China OR Japan, 4 is pronounced as Si and so is death. Hence, in Chinese OR Japanese culture, 4 is considered similar to death. So, some hotels in Japan don’t have 4th floor. Most of the people think that having 44 OR 444 will make you vulnerable to death. Considering this rule, apartment no. 104, 204 etc. do not exist. Having 444 in personal email will make you ineligible for any job whatsoever by nature. No one wants to hire death. Right?

Similarly, 9 is considered number of suffering. Using 4 and 9 will bring misfortunes. This is as per Japanese culture.

Well, this isn’t sufficient. If you want to work in a company run by Christians; make sure that number 666 is not found in your personal email id. Bible is responsible for this. 666 is considered the lucky number of the devil and is called as the mark of the beast.

The ketchup problem

France did ban the use of ketchup in schools. The reason is that ketchup were used as an alternative to the French cuisines. So, France attempted to save French cuisines.

Hairstyle problem

In 2010, Iran banned mullets because as per them, it was western way of life and against Islam. Not only this, but as per the local law, even other form of Western hairstyles including spikes were banned.

Many more rules are coming soon for your entertainment.

Thou must worship rats

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

We have witnessed many different weird traditions, funny laws, innovative yet out of box approaches, confusing mentalities among others. But, what is being discussed now is very different. You might see the Title which seems confusing. Who worships a rat? Well, at least in 1 place in this world, you will find a temple dedicated to rats.

That 1 place is in Rajasthan in India, located near Bikaner Area. It is called Karni Mata temple. Mata in Sanskrit means mother. It is a temple aimed at worshipping Karni Goddess. A nice place to visit, at least once in your entire life time.

The history and other information

There is a hidden legend. Karni Mata’s grandson Laxman once dropped into a river while attempting to take water. Karni Mata wanted him to get life. But, since that was against the law of nature, she decided to have him reincarnated as a rat. There are different theories: some say that Laxman was Karni Mata’s stepson.

Another legend says that once the place was attacked by a very big army. They used deception and illusionary powers to win. When Karni Mata came to know of this illegal war, she turned all soldiers into rats. When the rats begged for mercy, she told them to stay here and live the normal lives. They shall attain salvation post death.

The temple was completed by Maharaja Ganga Singh in 20th century. It has solid silver doors and a marble façade in front of the door. The legends of the goddess are depicted across the doorways.

The temple is a home to more than 20,000 rats. Some are black while some are white. The white rats are considered even more auspicious. Many devotees touch the feet of rats because they think rats to be nearest to the Goddess. It is custom to eat food nibbled by rats considering as holy food. Despite all this, no case of infectious disease is reported yet. This has puzzled the scientist world.

Recognitions

The temple appeared in US reality series “The Amazing Race”. It is also considered a wonder of the Indians in the game “Age of Empires 3”

Is your name approved?

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

After witnessing strange laws worldwide, we shall discuss about naming laws in Denmark. Denmark is a country located in Northern Europe. Being a part of Scandinavia, it is a country of vast history and vast culture. Here is a really funny law in Denmark.

The law

In Denmark, if you wish to name your baby, you need to select only pre – approved names.

The government has defined a list of 7000 pre – approved baby names. Some of these are for boys while some are for girls.

Challenging the rule

You might wonder what nonsense is this. You gave birth to your baby. Who is the government to decide the name? Well, this is what you should care about as this is what is required by law.

However, in some special cases, you are allowed to use different names. But, that requires prior approval from the local church. Even then, the name needs to be reviewed by the government. Around 1100 names are supposed to be reviewed each year. A name not meeting the criteria is likely to be rejected. You then need to recheck and select a better name.

Sorry but

Well, you might be wondering why such a nonsense rule was made. Well, Denmark was earlier known for various fancy names. Parents tried to promote their innovations during baby names and names which did not have any meaning were used. To avoid such problem, the government decided to put name approvals in place.

Not only this; but the law mandates gender specified in Denmark and any innovative change to spelling is not allowed.

The foreigners need to apply to have the names recognized. Once, the names are approved, you are free to use it whichever way you want to.

Name must include gender

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

We all want to name our babies wisely. They are our kids, hence we have all the authority to name them as per our wish. Well, will you like when the government tries to interfere with this? In Germany, government interferes in how you name your kid. Seems stupidity but that is by law. So, want to name your kid in Germany (Deutschland), take the approval from approving body first.

Well, it isn’t that much dangerous as it seems. The only thing is that the chosen names must carefully hint at the gender. So, it is illegal to impart a boy name to a girl OR vice versa. Also, using a last name OR any common noun cannot be selected for the first names of your baby. So, you need to carefully select the first name for your baby.

The approving body

Now comes the fundamental question – who approves the name? It isn’t the national government rather the local office (Standesamt) which does the approval. While evaluating the names, they refer to a book and makes necessary calculation.

You can appeal against their judgments. But, if you lose, you must change the name. Also, that process involves hefty fine. The fine increases exponentially with each failed attempt. So, in order to avoid ongoing hassle, many parents decide to opt for standard names. Some examples are: Alexander for boys; Marie for girls etc.

Rest of the world

The rule is followed by local Germans. But, what if you are not from Germany? For foreigners too, this process is to be strictly followed. But, how will Standesamt understand non – German names? Well, they consult foreign embassies for that and based on their feedback, the final decision is taken.

Water gun rule

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

After viewing many strange laws, let us move on the country about whom no one really talks. The country behind world’s largest religious building (Angkor Wat) is the country we are talking about. This post is about Cambodia. If you want to visit Cambodia, you must do so as it is a really worth visiting place, particularly Angkor Wat is the best known place ever on this planet.

The law

Recently, the Cambodians have witnessed huge increase in the use of water pistols. Due to this, the country witnessed a disturbance in their national peace.

You might be wondering about the connection of water gun with national peace. It is simple, the gun contains water. Right? This water can be anything, ranging from muddy water to even the toilet water. Mischievous children can definitely misuse these water pistols to do whatever they want and make the country a dirty place.

In order to take care of this disturbance, the country came with a rule banning the use of water pistols. It was decided that no one should use water pistols. On special occasions, the usage of water guns was totally banned. As a special case, it is decided that water guns will not be used during New Year celebrations.

The punishment

Now, you have used a water gun. So, what? As per law, your water gun will be confiscated and taken away. No other punishment shall happen. Yes, you will not be fined OR jailed for using a water pistol. Fines were in place earlier but removed on public criticism.

However, there is no way to recover your water pistol from the local authorities. It is better not to use the same in Cambodia. Beware!

Paying our tributes

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

World is indeed a strange place. Sometimes it appears that people are helping by nature supporting each other, sometimes it appears that humans simply hate each other. This post is not aimed at telling weird laws OR weird attitudes OR anything innovative yet out of box approach. Rather, this box discusses dangerous mentality with special context to what happened in France: A really dangerous attack of terrorism which made yesterday the day of Black Friday.

What happened was definitely a big slap on the face of humanity. While France was trying to attack terrorists in Syria so that we can have a safe world to live, they attempted to cast various airstrikes.

It is obvious that the French airstrikes weren’t liked by the terrorists. Hence, terrorists selected Paris as their next victim of attack. Killing 125+ in just a day, the attacks received huge attention from the world media. Syrian President called it a huge savage attack and mentioned that Syria was witnessing the same since 5 years. India linked it with 2008 Mumbai Attacks while USA called it anti – humanity attacks. UK, Deutschland, Italy and other European nations condemned this attack and this news spread to the United Nations.

France has declared this a state of emergency and called for a combined effort to end terrorism. The most ridiculous part is that politics started here as well. Instead of finding solutions, French (and rest of the Europeans) are linking this activity with religion. Whether, terrorism is associated with any religion OR not, I won’t discuss it right now. Whatever, it is agreed by all that what happened is definitely a total evil practice and no human would support it. It is not to be doubted that those innocents who lost their precious lives will probably never regain it and this is an irreparable loss.

Dear GOD, please come back from your vacations and do the justice. Also, give us strength to make this world a better place to live. Let us pay tribute to the innocent victims.

Interesting Singapore laws

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

After visiting funny laws of various countries, we now move on to Singapore and understand various funny laws in this great nation. Singapore is indeed a great tourist place and a country of many innovations.

The gum sale

Singapore is a country where personal hygiene is recommended. As a habit, people cannot tolerate chewing gums lying on streets. Hence, a law came into place which banned sale and purchase of chewing gums. You can however; use chewing gums if you took it from some other country but in that case, you must have kept chewing gums in your mouths.

If you are caught with chewing gums, you might be imprisoned.

The sexual problem

Singapore not only prohibits homosexuality but also makes it punishable by imprisoning for life. This is officially documented by the Penal Code Chapter 224 Section 377 and 377(A) where such a sexual intercourse is considered against the order of nature. So, LGBT human right lovers, stay away.

The pee rule

This rule is even funnier. Singapore forbids peeing in elevators. This might be linked with their liking for cleanliness. Other similar rules include

  • Litterers need to clean the street on Sundays.
  • Flushing the toilet is always mandatory especially in public places.
  • It is a strict no smoking country

Obsessed with the X word

Ever tried watching XXX (or similar movies)? Well, Singapore hates pornography completely. Hence, all forms are illegal. Even the extreme rules exist there.

For example, moving around your home without clothes (even for males) is classified as pornography. Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act of 1997 Chapter 184 Section 27A mentions this.

So, want to visit Singapore? Well, you should. It is a place worth visiting. But, taking precautions at the same time is also required.

The toilet connection to beer

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

In previous article, we noticed toilet flushing law. Now, we shall establish toilet connection to beer. This article is about Munich, Germany. First, we need to understand the background.

The background

In 1972, when Olympics were supposed to be played in Germany, it was decided to make Germany very beautiful city. In order to make Germany very beautiful, special mechanism was included. As a part of that, all the public toilets (including open air urinals) were removed.

While this made Munich really beautiful, this also made the lives of German problematic who found this rule inconvenient.

The solution

In order to serve the needs of the people, it was decided that all beer sellers will open their toilets to the general public. This must include the non – payers as well. So, even those who do not want to purchase any beer can use the facility very well. The shopkeeper shall not object to this. However, mobile beer serving trucks are not covered by the law. Of course, they do not have any toilet.

Again, like the previous post on Switzerland, this isn’t documented in the official law, rather is mentioned in various travel guides to Munich. What more to say, even if you want to get license to sell beers, you will probably never find this compulsion. But, the beer sellers are okay with this.

The repercussion

This rule looks like a nice and a very good mean for community service. This rule was first started by UK as a community service. German beer sellers too have implemented something similar though not documented. Given the fact that Munich does not have public toilet, beer sellers do not mind opening their toilets for the general public.

Thou shall not flush the toilet

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

This article and the next will cover the rules related to toilet use. We shall try to find out the logic behind these really weird laws. It is necessary to understand all such laws. Well the first law is focused on using loo and the country is Switzerland.

The Swiss people might already know what this post is about. Those, who are not from Switzerland, should continue reading.

The Swiss societies make it legally binding for all the residents not to flush the loo after 22:00 hours. It is to be noted that there is no such rule in the official documented Swiss law. However, the societies often implement this rule to avoid noise pollution.

This is however disputed and the Swiss locales often consider this an urban myth. The reason is that there is no legal statute mandating this and in flats where plumbing is noisy, this becomes a necessity. However, by law – flushing the toilet is not to be considered noise pollution. But, as per Swiss Homeowners Society (HEV); it is legal for the flat owners in Switzerland to take care of other tenants by implementing rules to control noise pollution by whichever means possible. In that case, draining a bathtub after 22:00 hours is often considered a borderline. This is hinted during Article 257(f) of the Swiss Rental law which makes it mandatory to take care of your neighbors. Mowing your lawn on Sunday is also illegal as it can cause noise pollution.

Well, Switzerland is considered a land of funny laws. Some other funny laws are:

  • No man can unilaterally declare war on others
  • Not using parking break might get you fined
  • No one can dry clothes on Sunday. That does not look pleasant.

Check your leg size

Hello Everyone!

(Note: Please review the very first introduction post before reading any of updates in this website.)

During our childhood, we used to think about our ambition. What you want to be when you grow up? Well, I want to be Air Force Pilot. Definitely, a very lucrative career which seems the most awarding – the job of the elites. Right? Imagine a very funny case, you passed the entrance examination, passed medical test and gave the interview confidently. Yet, you are rejected due to a very silly reason which isn’t in your control. What will you do now? Since, it is not in your control, you are helpless.

Well, here is that silly reason which got you rejected. The reason is: LEG SIZE SMALLER THAN REQUIRED.

Wondering where is this ridiculous rule. Well, it is in India. If you visit the Air Force Fighter Pilot Advertisement – it clearly mentions “the minimum leg length for the White officials is 99cm to 120cm. The length is to be calculated from waist to toe. The starting point is your hip bone and end point is your ankle bone.

Interestingly, if length is not falling in the range specified above, you will be rejected. Even a difference of 1cm is not considerable.

Indian Air Force contains body height, weight, eye sight, blood pressures as criteria for the prospective pilots. These are counted among physical standards. These rules are normal and nothing weird about other physical standards but inclusion of leg size as a physical standard seems ridiculous.

The rule goes further and limits thigh length as well. Your thighs cannot be more than 64cm. If you happen to read the advertisement carefully, it nowhere mentions why this rule was introduced. Indian Air Force is very strict about this rule and rejects application even if everything else is working fine.
