A first-person, action-adventure game from the makers of Slender: The Arrival has been announced. It’s called Valley, and it sees players venturing through a mysterious valley to discover its many secrets that appear to relate to the player’s ability to control life and death within the grip of their palms.
Blue Isle Studio released the announcement trailer and a barrage of screenshots to give gamers a very clear idea of what the gameplay will be like in Valley. It’s a huge departure from the more static and methodically locked down gameplay featured in Slender: The Arrival. You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what the mechanics are like and a little bit of how the L.E.A.F. Suit functions.
The game sees players making use of the Leap Effortlessly though Air Functionality Suit to travel through the vast environment within the mysterious valley that Blue Isle has designed. The game sports some segments where players will need to platform around using the L.E.A.F. Suit or run fast through areas at blazing speeds.
Some gamers are already calling it Super Mario meets BioShock.
One of the more interesting core features that they list in the game’s description is the ability to manipulate life and death and how the environment will react to the failure of players, where it states…
“Manipulate life and death: the L.E.A.F. suit grants its pilots the phenomenal power to both give and take life from any living thing.
“Experience a unique twist on death: the more you die, the more the valley will die around you.”
We get to see some trees being killed or brought back to life, along with a deer who is revived like a noob getting brought back into the fight after stepping out of the spawn area in Battlefield 4 only to get popped by a sniper like a helium-filled balloon being pricked by a pin.
I do wonder if these revival powers will also play a role in the game’s actual story or if it’s just a game mechanic? Additionally, I’m curious if the environment dying will affect the game’s ending?
Either way, in order to make good on the game’s many exploration possibilities, there are suit upgrades made available so players can run faster and jump higher to reach difficult to reach places. Players will also need to make good on these features in order to explore the ruins, forests and environments inhabited by creatures, monsters and dark forces.
Valley is set to release this summer for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. You can skim the info on the official Steam store page or visit the official website to learn more. One thing is for sure, this ain’t your daddy’s walking simulator.
