John Romero and Adrian Carmack, two of id Software’s original group that helped make Wolfenstein 3D, Quake and DOOM, are teaming up again to bring back something big to the gaming industry. The duo plan to make an announcement April 25th.
There’s a cute promo posted on John Romero’s YouTube account riffing on the end sequence of Star Wars: Epidosive VII where Rey went to go visit a certain someone on a distant planet. Check it out below.

The fake John Williams music is easily the best part about the whole thing… that and John Romero’s Pantene Pro-V hair. He should have given it a good wind-blown shake before the clip cut off.
The entire spoof is hilarious but it also makes me question what sort of game they could be working on? The dig at Star Wars makes me think maybe it’s something sci-fi related? The fact that Romero is handed a keyboard and mouse as if he’s “returning” to his roots makes me think that this could be an arena-style shooter, which is what put Romero and crew on the map.
If you take a short trip over to Night Work Games, the official website reveals that a new first-person shooter is being worked by the studio in Galway, Ireland.
At the bottom of the site it notes that…
“Night Work Games Ltd. is the dark and violent subsidiary of Romero Games”
So we’re expecting some kind of dark, demonic, FPS with Romero getting back to the thrashing floor that helped shape his name as a legend in the video game industry (and I’m not talking about Daikatana)?
Well, regardless of what they’re working on… given today’s advancements in engine tech and the possibilities with the way hardware scales, I’m genuinely excited to see what they come up with.
Be sure to check out the official Night Work Games website for the official announcement come April 25th.
