If you want to participate in the multiplayer open beta for id Software’s DOOM, now would be a good time to start loading up the game’s open beta – all 8GB of it.
Bethesda and id Software previously announced that DOOM’s open beta would be available for pre-loading starting April 12th ahead of the April 15th start date. You can start downloading the beta right now on the PC, Xbox One or PS4.
The news was accompanied with a 16 second teaser trailer that you can check out below, which very briefly gives you a look at the upcoming first-person shooter.
The beta will only run between April 15th and April 17th and will only contain two game modes, Team Deathmatch and Warpath.
The official description of the multiplayer beta reads…
“In the DOOM Multiplayer Beta, fans will have the opportunity to play the brutally fun and challenging shooter weeks before its release. The Beta will feature two maps, Heatwave and Infernal, and two modes, Team Deathmatch and Warpath, along with never-before-seen weapons, armor sets, taunts and hack modules. “
The multiplayer beta will allow players to acquire a power-up to turn into a Revenant, as well as two types of grenades and a special Gauss Cannon power-up. IGN details some of the other weapons at the disposal of players, including a Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Super Shotgun, Vortex Rifle, Static Rifle, Heavy Assault Rifle, and a Lightning Gun.
Between DOOM and Gears of War 4, I’m definitely more excited for DOOM. There’s a lot of potential and a lot of history with the run-and-gun FPS and id Software appears to want to get back to their roots with the game, giving players a hardcore shooting experience unlike a lot of other games currently on the market or coming to the market.
Gears of War 4‘s multiplayer beta gets underway on April 18th, and everything I’ve seen so far looks as mundane and safe as could possibly be. We’ll see if they mix things up once the beta goes live, but I’m not holding my breath.
DOOM is scheduled to release on May 13th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. You can grab the open beta client right now from the PlayStation Store or Xbox Store, or you can download it from the Steam page.
