Overflow Games and Phoenix Online Publishing recently released their third-person, 3D platformer Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim on PC for Steam, GOG.com and Humble Store.
The platformer sees players taking on the role of Tyrim, a young Viking who goes on a harrowing adventure to save all the missing warriors from his village.
While this seems like a typical platformer where players will blast through levels, bop enemies on the head and try to save the day, the reality is that the game has a lot more depth than that. Players will be able to make use of a crafting mechanic to create new items to help them along the way, as well as take hold of various vehicles to help Tyrim along the way.
Jonathan Prytz, the lead game designer and artist on the game, commented about the game, saying…
“Developing this game has been such an amazing journey. Lots and lots of hard work, long days, late nights, many laughs and even a bit of frustration. We have probably developed as much as Tyrim has since the very start of this project!” […] “We have to thank our Kickstarter backers for believing in this game two and a half years ago and we hope to make them proud with all that we accomplished today! Finally the release is here and we’re super excited!”
The crowd-funded title was quickly Greenlit on Steam after gamers managed to catch wind of the game. You can see what got gamers so giddy with the launch trailer below.

The game features multiple vehicles, including the ability to surf through the desert on a wind-surfer. There’s also a variety of weapons for players to utilize against enemies ranging from basic swords to crossbows.
Cornerstone has the sort of gameplay that seems equivalent to old-school 3D adventure games like Ape Escape or Ratchet & Clank.
