Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Rumored For Announcement

Rumors are flying high and trending across the web that Activision’s next Call of Duty game will be called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. There are supposedly retailer ads prepping for an announcement that’s also rumored to take place next Tuesday on May 3rd.

PC Authority did a write-up on the news, pointing out that a bunch of other websites are reporting that Call of Duty‘s next outing for later this year in the fall will be from Infinity Ward and will be entitled Infinite Warfare. They also state that the game will take place in space and will go “full science fiction”.

Given that we’ve just come off various other stories based on misinformation or hoaxes, you can already presume that maybe not everyone will be quick to jump on board the hype train until some further confirmation is made.

Now on that note, culture critic Jim Sterling did reveal a retailer sheet indicating that the next Call of Duty would be revealed on the 3rd, next week.

The next Call of Duty will apparently get unveiled by next Tuesday. Getting listed in retailers at any rate.pic.twitter.com/eYnVX5spdh

Some people point out that the flyer appears to have a rather conspicuous typo, with “reveal” being misspelled as “reaveal”. It kind of makes you question if maybe we’re dealing with another hoax?

At this point I’m definitely taking this all with a grain of salt until Activision drops the confirmation hammer. While the timing is right, the subtitle seems correct and the flyer might be true, it’s always best to see the toilet paper on the roll before you flush the porta-potty.

Anyway, Infinity Ward will have a lot to answer for because they let down a lot of gamers with Call of Duty: Ghost. Sledgehammer managed to salvage some of the wreckage with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and I thought Treyarch knocked it out of the park with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, as far as storytelling was concerned.

We’ll see if taking the series into deep space will revitalize interest in Infinity Ward, or if they’ll continue to be a shell of the former studio that really put the Call of Duty series on the map with the first two Modern Warfare games.

  1. I might as well speculate about this: What if the next Call of Duty doesn’t take place in space or the future or any of that, but instead takes place in modern America during a new Civil War? Americans of all stripes blasting at each other and using store bought drones strapped with explosives to blow each other up? That would be very suspiciously timely in my opinion.

  2. It’s being done by Infinity Ward who hasn’t done a good COD since COD4 and all the guys who did that aren’t there anymore. I don’t expect this one to be good.
