Mimimi Productions and Daedalic Entertainment have announced that a 3D, stealth-action ninja game called Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, is coming to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC this fall.
The game is a completely different take on the tactical stealth sub-genre, putting players in command of a group of shogun who can not only utilize stealth and sword techniques to take down opponents, but also utilize guns and the environment to help get the job done. The game was recently announced with a trailer that helps setup both the story and the isometric gameplay. You can check it out below.
In the year 1615, a new Shogun rises to power in Japan and strives to bring peace to the realm. In his battle against rebellion he recruits five specialists with extraordinary skills for assassination, sabotage and espionage. Part of this team is Hayato, an agile Ninja who artfully defeats his enemies one by one from the cover of the shadows.
The game is played out in a unique manner as there is a group of shogun that will be at the disposal of players during each mission. It will be up to players to decide how they utilize the team and which tactics they put front and center in order to complete the mission. As mentioned in the description of the game…
“Part of this team are Hayato, an agile Ninja who artfully defeats his enemies one by one, undetected from the cover of the shadows. Samurai Mugen fights with more strength and as the tank of the group, can take on several enemies at once, at the expense of his agility. Aiko the Geisha is a master of camouflage and distraction, trapper Yuki is specialized in traps and deceptions. Takuma, being the eldest of the group, relies on his sniper skills for ranged attacks.”
The game looks different… that’s for sure. I like that they’re taking risks here with an isometric, tactical team-based design. It’s like a real-time version of XCOM, in a way.
A lot of the appeal and challenge will be based on how good the enemy AI is and what sort of freedoms players will be able to employ in completing the missions. It’s like a mix of Assassin’s Creed and Tenchu.
They don’t have a full release date set in stone just yet, but Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is due for release sometime in the fall for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. For more info feel free to check out the official Facebook page.
