Are you in college? Do you like video games? Are you on a recognized e-sports team? If you answered ‘Yes!’ to all three of those questions like a rabid Daniel Bryan fan, then you’re in luck because you could be eligible to receive a free college scholarship from KontrolFreek for exercising your e-sports gaming skills.
Over on the official KontrolFreek website they announced that that they’re starting a collegiate scholarship for e-sports players. The site is open for registration for those who are current college students part of an established collegiate level e-sports team or a high school senior who plans to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at an accredited four-year college or university and is accepted in a recognized e-sports program.
For those selected to be part of the program, KontrolFreek will award the recipient with up to $2,000 in scholarship funds to go toward college expenses. They will award up to 10 recipients with scholarships each year and it’s completely possible to re-apply each year assuming the eligibility standards are met and if KontrolFreek continues to provide scholarship funds for collegiate e-sports competitors.
The scholarship program is administered to students in both the United States and Canada via the Scholarship Management Services of America, which is a program that’s been running for 35 years to help corporations, institutions and independent foundations establish scholarship programs for a wide number of activities and educational organizations.
Ashish Mistry, the president and CEO of KontrolFreek, commented about the new scholarship program that KontrolFreek is backing, mentioning in the press release…
“KontrolFreek has been heavily involved in professional eSports since we were founded seven years ago, and we knew we wanted to give gamers a leg-up as they pursued a higher education,”
“eSports is growing quickly, and some of the best and brightest are passionately pursuing it at a college level. When we looked at the financial aid options currently available for collegiate players, we saw a need for a broader, truly merit-based academic scholarship. I am thrilled that KontrolFreek has stepped up to fulfill that need.”
E-sports is a fast growing market with huge revenue potential. Some reports state that there will be a global audience of 1.4 billion fans of e-sports by 2017, while other reports indicate that e-sports could hit $4 billion in revenue by 2018.
It makes sense that KontrolFreek would want to get in on the burgeoning market by helping potential future e-sports celebrities get some funds to finish their education.
