The Odd Gentlemen have announced over on their official website that the third chapter in the remake of King’s Quest will arrive for the PC, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360 on April 26th.
The third chapter in the series will see Graham and the quirky adventure of how he met his wife, future queen Valanice.
Over on the official website they reveal what the third chapter is about and how Graham rescued Valanice from the evil witch…
“Once Upon a Climb is a romantic comedy adventure featuring a beloved character from the series’ classic beginnings: King Graham’s wife and Gwendolyn’s grandmother, Queen Valanice. Longtime fans may think they know the legend of how Graham rescued his future bride from the wicked witch Hagatha’s tower. But the truth behind the fairytale is much more complicated!”
The second chapter was a huge letdown, being little more than a repetitive backtracking set of progressively complex fetch quests. Graham managed to stay stuck in a little goblin dungeon throughout the entire second chapter, making it feel small, cramped and very boring.
I’m curious how they’ll handle the retelling of Graham meeting Valanice, though. In today’s age you can’t have women as a damsel in distress or Sarkeesian’s pimp Jonathan McIntosh will write and produce a poorly researched video talking about misogyny, toxic masculinity and sexism while misrepresenting the contextualization of the game and getting a bunch of ignorant morons in the gaming media to parrot the misinformation while potentially using a secret e-mail list to coordinate the exchange sex for positive coverage.
Anyway, this marks number three out of the five chapters that The Odd Gentlemen have planned for release of the reboot of King’s Quest. The first chapter was actually pretty good. It portrayed Graham as a bit of a bumbling fool attempting to come into his own. I’m curious if the series will retcon Graham’s more heroic moments when he got older and buffer and badass or will they keep him scrawny and drenched in the kind of gaucherie one would expect from a Jay Baruchel film? I guess we’ll find out when chapter four and five arrive.
You can look for King’s Quest Chapter 3: Once Upon A Climb to launch for home consoles and PC starting April 26th next month.
