Mode 7 Games released a new trailer and a ton of new info for the upcoming Frozen Synapse 2, the sequel to one of the most lauded strategic combat games ever made.
The trailer covers the game’s brand new procedurally generated city, where players can enter into any building, as well as face off against a number of different goal-driven AI factions that populate the city. Players can make friends, enemies and allies just like in X-Com: Apocalypse. You can check out the gameplay trailer below to get a taste of the new features and small sampling of the auricular nectar that is the soundtrack.

They explain in the press release that the city is procedurally generated and that various factions are all operating to control the city. Players can join these factions or work solo and attempt to take them all down.
As explained in the press release…
“The city map is a living system, with factions determining their own goals independently: think Alpha Centauri but with fewer worms that burrow into your brain. You can pick up contract missions from factions or play in an entirely freeform manner, stealing the resources you need to get ahead, like a cad and/or bounder.”
They also mention that everything is in the city and “on the map”, from each mission parameter and target to every faction, to every VIP, to ever killer, to the player’s main base. It’s all there in real time.
The sequel also adds new stealth tactics, new unit classes and new curved geometry, which will make for some interesting ways to navigate through the maps.
The multiplayer is also back and this time they’re adding new competitive modes and features, too. Additionally, if things go well during the Early Access phase they have plans on pumping in unique modes like 3-vs-3 and 4-vs-4. However, all of that stuff is just dreams in a pipe… it won’t happen if it doesn’t happen.
Frozen Synapse 2 is due to drop sometime during 2016, but first it has to make a preliminary appearance on Early Access. You can keep track of the game and its development by hitting up the official website.
