Publisher 505 Games and developer Keen Games will bring their action adventure RPG, Portal Knights, to Steam Early Access for PC on February 25th. Portal Knights mixes elements from games like Minecraft, Dragon Quest: Builders and Dungeon Defenders, producing a sandbox game with a story.
The latest game that comes from devs Keen Games offers up quite a bit of popular RPG mechanics into its action adventure game — Portal Knights. With that said, if you’re not a fan of games like Minecraft or the art style of Dungeon Defenders, then you may not like this. But if you’re into games like Dragon Quest: Builders that sports a story accompanied with building, then this might be a game worth checking out.
In an attempt to separate itself from other building games, it takes on a combat system that allows you to freely walk around, attack, block at anytime, and dodge and roll incoming attacks. This allows players to experience a different combat system that doesn’t revolve around smashing up to enemies and spamming one button.
If you need a quick summary about the game, the devs simply explain that…
“Leave the familiar world behind and step into the fantastic unknown with Portal Knights! Play with your friends in this action-packed crafting adventure across whimsical 3D sandbox worlds. Craft your adventure. Forge your hero. Become the ultimate Portal Knight!”
The game is set to feature a character creation, class building and different skills and magical abilities to choose from, which can be assigned to your character. And tagging along with your character comes crafting rare weapons, and building houses and forts like in any other typical building game. If you want to see how the game’s mechanics are you can watch the official trailer.

Over the next few days, we’re going to give you a sneaky little insight into the character creation and classes in Portal Knights. Before you head out on your adventure, you’re going to need a hero, right? Today, we’re kicking things off with character creation… What will you name him/her?
As seen above, the official trailer for the character creation is very basic but enough to add some distinction to players’ characters in-game, which others will be able to see when playing with friends. But, again, if you’re looking for another Minecraft or Dragon Quest: Builders alternative this might be a game worth checking out.
