Square Enix announced that the diorama strategy game, Hitman: GO, has a definitive edition available and it just launched for PC, PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 4.
Originally the game came out back in 2014 for mobile devices. It was one of those experimental games that took a very different approach to the typical third-person, stealth-action mechanics that originally defined the series back in the early aughts. Hitman: GO essentially is a turn-based strategy game where the objective is to get in close and take out a target without being seen. The gimmick, however, is that the game is played like a board game with little figurines. It’s definitely original.
You can see how Hitman GO was inspired and how certain scenes were built with a quick behind-the-scenes look at one of the dioramas being physically constructed in the studio.
To celebrate the release of Hitman GO: Definitive Edition on PC and PlayStation, we’ve put our minds to a very special project – pushing our studio’s first project to a new level of craftsmanship. Buy it now!
This is the first big project by Square Enix Montreal (a location that’s become quite the hotspot for the perpetually budding video game industry) and it requires a lot of strategy, focus and forward-thinking planning.
According to the press release Hitman GO: Definitive Edition has undergone some tweaks and changes to fit the nature of the larger gaming platforms, where it states…
“The definitive edition has been updated with a new control scheme optimized for the console and PC experiences, along with new platinum trophies, Steam achievements for PC and a cross save feature that allows users to seamlessly transfer save files between systems for PlayStation platforms. The game includes all precedent content updates (Opera, Airport and St. Petersburg boxes) and all in-app purchases have been removed.”
You can see how the gameplay works and what it’s like with a video of the original iOS version being played by YouTuber Lonniedos.

You can pick up the game right now for PC via Steam or on the PlayStation Store for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. If you go with the latter option you have cross-buy support so if you get it for the Vita you can play it on the PS4 or if you get it on the PS4 you can play it on the Vita. The Hitman GO: Definitive Edition is available for only $7.99, but the press release states that you can get it for 20% off the normal price for the first week only.
If you’re the kind of gamer who thought that the concept of turn-based strategy via a game board diorama seemed like a cool concept but you just weren’t down with laying down money on a microtransaction-fueled mobile app, at least now you can get your hands on the game without having to worry about in-app purchases or cash shops impeding your progress… or fun.
