Final Fantasy XV director at Square Enix, Hajime Tabata, made a post on the official Square Enix blog to announce that Final Fantasy XV is officially releasing sometime within 2016.
The announcement is kept brief and is part of the new year celebration, with Tabata-san writing…
“We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016! In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.
“We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.”
I imagine they’re already crunching in overtime because you can bet your bottom dollar Square Enix wants this game up and out the door by the fall of 2016.
Square has already secured the late summer quarter with the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The only reason to move that game into that slot and not holiday, 2016 is because they have a bigger game due for release in that window. Now unless they have plans on releasing Kingdom Hearts III in the fall and Final Fantasy XV in the early summer or late spring, I would be willing to bet that they’re reserving the fall, 2016 slot specifically for the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV.
Back during GamesCom Square had announced that they would announce the announcement date for the announcement of Final Fantasy XV’s release date. During PAX we learned that the announcement for the release date would be sometime in March, 2016.
Well we now have one piece of puzzle guaranteed: the game is launching in 2016, unquestionably.
Now all we need is to find out in which quarter (and it’s unlikely the first or second quarter) the game is releasing in, and then from there it’s a matter of narrowing down an actual date for the game on the PS4 and Xbox One.
