Dying Light: The Following Story Trailer Reveals The Creepy Cult

Techland let loose a new trailer for Dying Light: The Following, the upcoming expansion for the 2015 first-person, zombie-survival title that went on to become a huge hit across the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The trailer is only a minute and a half but it’s a fascinating minute and a half through and through. The trailer depicts the mysterious cult. It also gives gamers a tiny snippet of the prophecy that they follow of one true savior coming, not to brandish salvation through sword, steel and a lot of horsepower, but through cunning and the promise of everlasting life. You can check out the trailer below.

I think this is a really interesting route to take for a zombie game. Oftentimes when movies do it, the results feel contrived and annoying. I mean, most times people don’t go to see zombie films to have majority of the film spent talking about social politics – most people just want to see a zombie’s head go boom after the trigger of a Remington is pulled.

But here… the game puts players in the role of someone investigating how this cult operates, and what it is they’re doing exactly on the outskirts of the city. The fact that players will have to travel to the location using a vehicle makes it feel that much more grand. The added fact that the cult isn’t quite what they seem gives the story an element of intrigue and mystery.

For a game it’s great because it has players working towards something while cracking skulls and running over the undead in a 4×4. While a plot-line like this might usually be received with groans and a 4 out of 10 on IMDB if used in the format of a movie, I can say that I’m somewhat genuinely interested to see how the story goes in the upcoming expansion.

Thankfully the wait won’t be long, and gamers can look to get their hands on Dying Light: The Following when it releases on February 9th, 2016 next month for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

  1. Probably a opportunity for them to bash christianity. I liked Dying light but the diversity bullshit themes like a progressive, diverse and tolerant Islamic city is off putting to say the least. Glad that this game got bashed by holier progressive ragtags like FemFreak.

    1. I don’t think it’s going to bash Christianity (or at least, I don’t think it will based on the trailers released so far).

It looks more like it may use southern Baptist vibes with the way the cult leader talks but the cult itself seems to be steeped pretty deep in possible necromancy.
