Marcin Janiszewski recently took to the official Playstation blog to announce the new skills added in the Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone expansion. Players will be introduced to new forms of alchemy, combat and signs, which is said to be far better than before.
The Witcher 3 brought a lot of things to the table, like huge open world with a lot of optional choices, which is one of the most liked things about the game. However, more is being added to the big adventure game with a new expansion entitled Hearts of Stone.
The expansion will add more to your skills and moves, with the addition to your alchemy, signs and combat tree. Marcin Janiszewski, senior gameplay designer at CD Projekt Red, took to the Playstation blog to announce that Runewords and Glyphwords will add another layer to the game’s mechanics and will bring more customization to weapons and armor. You can read a snippet that Janiszewski posted to the blog, as seen below.
“In Hearts of Stone, we are introducing a new mechanic that provides another layer of customisation – Runewords and Glyphwords. These are new powerful enchantments that can be applied to highest quality swords and armours.”
Looking to the three new improvements that are now mixed with Runewords and Glyphwords are combat, signs and alchemy. Each of the two plays a significant role in the three, altering better advantages in battles.
Looking at combat, Janiszewski notes that it is the most easiest tree to start with, but one of the hardest to master. In addition, the combat tree benefits heavily off of damage, but if you maximize that out you won’t have too much left to protect yourself with. To fix this, the new Runewords and Glyphwords can regenerate your health or deflect arrows from distant archers. The dev concludes the combat tree by saying that it isn’t heavy on items, but will help those who wield a good sword.
The signs are more for advanced players, which requires a lot of thought before choosing an ability. At the start, players are limited to what they can buy and how many abilities can be used. Each sign may help in one area, but requires a lot of stamina and timing. To balance this, some Runewords and Glyphwords can recharge the recovery rate of a skill or reduces the amount it takes to cast it.
The last skill the dev explains is alchemy, which is the most advanced out of them all. Like any alchemist you will need a lot of materials, money and resources for this to work efficiently for you. However, the Runewords and Glyphwords can extend and increase your power and health making you an unstoppable juggernaut.
Janiszewski didn’t go into full detail about the Runewords and Glyphwords and their other perks, since the expansion will be coming out soon. So with that said, you can extend your adventure in the Witcher 3 with the Hearts of Stone expansion, which will land October 12 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
