Persona 5 Delayed To 2016 For PS3, PS4 In America, Japan

Atlus and P. Studio sent out a very basic press release during this year’s Tokyo Game Show stating that Persona 5 will not make the suggested 2015 release slate. Instead, Atlus has announced that Persona 5 will be moved to a 2016 release for the Americas and for Japan. The game is still scheduled to arrive on the PS3 and the PS4.

After acknowledging that there was no “easy way to say” what they had to say, they still delivered the heartbreaking news to fans who were hoping that a solid release date and some new media assets would be unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in Tokyo, Japan. However, Atlus dropped a bomb that broke hearts into more pieces than One Direction fans realizing that the group is fast approaching their mid-20s and will no longer be considered hot.

Atlus stated in the press release…

“The strengths of the Persona series are compelling characters, a moving, relatable story, and a borderline obsession with minutiae – elements which can’t be rushed or taken lightly. So while ATLUS realizes the frustration and disappointment that this must cause for the JRPG-loving public, please know that we are delaying the game in order to make sure the next iteration of the Persona series lives up to the expectations of fans.”

Last year, back at the end of 2014, Atlus had sent out a trailer indicating that Persona 5 would originally be launching sometime this year in 2015 for both the PS3 and PS4. The teaser was quite cryptic but featured zero gameplay, which should have been an indicator right there. You can check it out below as a brief reminder.

Usually a lack of solid gameplay means that the game is likely not going to release when it’s suggested in various media assets.

In this case, a 2016 release seems a lot more reasonable.  If you were worried about no additional media assets accompanying the news about the game being delayed there’s no need to keep fretting. Atlus released an updated gameplay trailer that you can check out below, courtesy of DualShockers.

Fans may still have to sit tight and wait a bit longer for the release regarding the popular niche JRPG, but at least Atlus dropped a new trailer to help with the waiting game.
