Dark Souls 3 Set For April 2016 Release On Xbox One, PS4, Steam

Bandai Namco games announced that Dark Souls III would be released in April, 2016. The date itself wasn’t revealed but at least tentatively we know it’s coming in April. I get that sinking feeling that this is likely a placeholder and the game will probably get delayed out of the spring window considering that it’ll be competing with Uncharted 4 and a few other big titles during that time.

Nevertheless, Bandai Namco announced that…

“DARK SOULS III will be available throughout North America and South America in April 2016 for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, and PC via STEAM. DARK SOULS III provides players with an all-new world filled with heinous enemies, hidden secrets, and captivating environments as they search to destroy the awakened Lords of Cinder and discover what has happened to this apocalyptic land.”

Accompanying the news is a new gameplay teaser trailer as well, featuring more of the game’s improved combat mechanics. We get to see some of the instant-kill moves, as well as see the improved blocking and rolling in play. Some of the additional weapon modifiers mentioned in the press release are not on display, such as the advanced arts or weapon skills but you can still check out the video below courtesy of All Games Beta.

Dark Soul III Early Gameplay Footage

Unfortunately a lot of what’s featured in the video is the same kind of stuff we’ve seen previously from other trade shows. I was hoping for some Tokyo Game Show footage maybe where get to see more of the arts on display, perhaps.

Instead, we see the same segment that’s been repeatedly showcased before, where the dragon atop the keep roasts everything in sight and the player has to get through the area without turning into an armored up barbecue stick.

The boss fight at the end is usually where most of the demos end since a lot of gamers have been unable to defeat that slinky and fast moving knight. Over on the official website there’s 44 second gameplay clip from this year’s Tokyo Game Show that you can also check out.

Dark Souls III looks very much improved over the last outing and a lot of that is thanks to the game not being on the old and outdated Xbox 360 and PS3. Bandai Namco will either cement that April window in stone by announcing a date sometime in the near future or they’ll up and announce that Dark Souls III is being delayed further into 2016, which wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

You can learn more about the game by heading on over to the official Dark Souls website.

  1. Uncharted 4 shouldn’t be a factor for Dark Souls 3. Uncharted 4 releases around mid March which means that it won’t be a big competitor for Dark Souls. The only other big game that I can think of releasing in April is Quantum Break.
