Director for Final Fantasy XV, Hajime Tabata, revealed during the PAX Prime Active Time Report for the upcoming JRPG that gamers can expect to get an official release date on the game in March of 2016, next year.
According to Final Fantasy, the game will also be released in 2016 for the Xbox One and PS4. The release date for the game will be unveiled at the mystery event that will take place in March.
Potentially, this could mean that the release date will be unveiled during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. It’s one of the bigger events that takes place during the early parts of March.
It’s completely unlikely, though, that a Japanese company would announce the release date to one of their biggest games during GDC. No offense to GDC but it just doesn’t garner enough hype to warrant that kind of attention from Square Enix.
The likelihood is that there will be a special event – possibly similar to a Nintendo Direct, perhaps? – and Square will roll out a roadmap for their big AAA releases at that point.
Of course, it’s all up the air. Hopefully we’ll get a few more details at the Tokyo Game Show where a lot of gamers from both the east and the west are expecting Final Fantasy XV to show up in some capacity.
Square has been a bit mum on details on the game this past year save for the very impressive demo that was released in order to give gamers a taste of what’s to come and to prove that the game certainly is not vaporware. Gamers had an opportunity to play-test the very cool new combat system and get acquainted with Noctis, his crew and each of their unique fighting styles.
We’ll see what Square has in store for the game as the March, 2016 announcement window draws closer.
