Cuphead Gameplay Video Battles Frogs And Slot Machines

Studio MDHR is showing off the artfully captivating Cuphead at this year’s PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington. The game is a side-scrolling, boss battling, cooperative shooter designed to mimic the art-style and themes from the 1930s era of cartoon animation.

There is some direct feed gameplay video captured by Gamespot, giving gamers just over three minutes of gameplay and featuring some intense combat between the Cuphead duo and two jolly frogs who can turn into a slot machine. Check it out below.

The beginning parts of the video led me to believe at first that maybe the game was too easy. The two players seemed to be able to hop through the projectiles and avoid getting hit for the most part, but as the fight wore on and the jolly frogs began switching up their tactics like a Ryan Gosling switches up girlfriends, it became obvious that the challenge was increasing and the struggle was real.

Once the pudgy frog began rolling around like two MMA fighters who are way too into the half-guard, the players seemed to have a tough time adjusting to the tactics. It was really a matter of skill, timing and judging when to make the right moves and when to keep firing.

The game looks like it could be a ton of fun and it reminds me of the old Mega Man Power Battles where it was centered entirely on the boss fights. Supposedly there’s going to be some platforming segments included as well, but we’ll see how that all pans out as the game draws closer to release.

You can keep an eye on the development of this Xbox One and PC indie title by paying a visit to the official Studio MDHR website. Cuphead is tentatively set for release on both the Xbox One and Steam for 20016.
