Afterlife Empire Gets Delayed To Address Game-Breaking Bugs

If there’s one thing you really want to get a handle on before releasing a game, it’s the game-breaking bugs. You only get one chance to make a first impression with a new release and you certainly don’t want it floundering on the sales floor like a crippled little fish, similar to what happened with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. So with that in mind, The Fine Young Capitalists and Autobotika made it known that Afterlife Empire has missed its August 14th release date. This was done in order for the developers to address some of the bugs that were pointed out to them by a few of the crowd-funding backers who received early beta keys.

Over on the Tumblr page for the Fine Young Capitalists and over on the Steam store page for Afterlife Empire, a short and sweet message is posted letting gamers know that the ghostly tycoon game won’t make its original release slate but it will be pushed back. Danielle and Lola stated that…

“Most of our team is working on Macs, so we haven’t had as much bug testing as we’d like on PCs. With our backers having the early access keys we are getting a lot of support and reports on potentially game-breaking bugs we need to fix before we release the game.

“For everyone else waiting, we hope that you understand that we want to present a polished product for you to play. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We’ll be announcing more details on the new release date soon!”

Tentatively there’s an August 21st date on the page but hopefully that’s just a placeholder because I would imagine it might take a bit more than a week to fix the bugs and make any other last minute changes.

The game received some harmful opinions from a certain Harmful Opinions YouTuber, as well as plenty of other feedback from those who backed the game and had access to the keys – many people stated that the game was not ready for release and that it contained a number of game-breaking issues.

Harmful Glance At… – Afterlife Empire [Beta + UPDATE in description]

UPDATE: the game will not be releasing on the 14th as they are pushing it back to work on bugs. Wise, in my opinion. Afterlife Empire on Steam (I was provided with a beta key by TFYC) :

Thankfully Autobotika took the feedback to heart and decided to delay the game to address some of the bugs and crashes.

We don’t get many games like this and despite it looking like a title made on a budget of only $70,000 (money provided mostly by the people using the GamerGate hashtag) hopefully the devs will get enough in revenue to have another go at it. We’ll see how it all turns out when game finally does get its release.

Additionally, I’m curious if the games media will actually ever report on this game outside of the up-and-coming #GamerGate websites and Game Politics? Time will tell.

  1. I’d rather buy a game that was delayed than buy a game that constantly crashes and has lots of bugs. This was a good decision by The Fine Young Capitalists.

  2. I have a lot of respect for them for doing that. They didn’t release a broken product and then fix it after.
