A new beat-’em-up from Bandai Namco Games is on the way for the PS Vita and PlayStation 4. The title is called Crows: Burning Edge. It’s a similar kind of game to the likes of River City Ransom and The Warriors.
Following the Anime Expo 2015, Bandai Namco released the trailer for the game that aims to celebrate the series 25th anniversary as an ongoing manga, first appearing back in 1990. You can check out the trailer below.

That clip probably does absolutely nothing in describing what the game is actually about or how the gameplay is handled. Thankfully there’s a second clip that focuses more on the 25th anniversary aspect, and Getmasu posted it so you can get a glimpse at what the 3D fighting game looks like in action. There are only snippets of gameplay intertwined so you’ll have to keep an eye out when they pop up.
That clip of the live-action segment when the two gangs run into each other Braveheart-style? That’s actually from a series of live-action movies based on the Crows manga. According to some of the user reviews the movie is all about style… not necessarily the construction of the film but the content of the film. The characters are about exhibiting style, emanating style, even fighting and losing in style.
Any game that brings back more of the fun-filled gameplay found in titles like Shodai are a welcome addition in my eyes.
Unfortunately, we get to see so very little of the actual gameplay that it has me worried that this might be more of a visual novel-style adventure with some fighting sprinkled throughout as opposed to an actual beat-’em-up game. Of course, we’ll likely learn more as the game draws closer to release. I doubt we’ll see a localized port of this one but it’s worth noting nonetheless.
Crows: Burning Edge is due for release in 2016 for the PS Vita and PS4. You can hit the official website for more info.
