If you’ve been itching to sweep the galaxy and explore the stars in a rogue-like space sim similar to FTL, but you also wanted the resource management and diplomatic features of a 4x strategy game, you might really enjoy Solar Crusaders.
The developers have been making announcements on Twitter recently to signify that the beta will be commencing soon for the game and that those who want to participate in the beta are already eligible if they pre-ordered the. I’m not fond of pre-ordering games to join alpha or beta tests, as it feels as if there’s a dishonest element to trying out a game only if you attempt to commit to a purchase first.
However, for those of you out there who also don’t feel comfortable pre-ordering the game in order to give it a test run, there’s still the option to register for the beta… for free. You don’t have to worry about pre-ordering or proposing yourself to a lifetime commitment with a game you may not like.
If you don’t remember the game – it was only briefly mentioned here once before – you can see the trailer to get an idea of what it’s like.

Solar Crusaders is one of those games that’s been through the multiple phases of independent development. Puremana Studios managed to get the game Kickstarted through crowd-funding and then made the journey onto Steam Greenlight, where it was promptly voted up in order to be added to the Steam store, and now it’s in the final stretch for the beta test that will precede its official launch.
The game will offer players the ability to explore a procedural galaxy where no two events are exactly the same, and you will have to build up your empire by gathering resources, going on transport runs, fending off your resources from pirates and other hostile forces, as well as upgrading your ships. You can establish a dominating fleet of carriers or focus on a group of star fighters… the choice is yours.
If you’re interested in participating in the upcoming beta but you don’t want to pre-order, you can sign-up right now by heading on over to the official Solar Crusaders website.
