The most ridiculous and awesome short film to come out in a long time just received its own game. Kung Fury may have been 30 minutes of the most intense, orgasmic retro action paying an homage to the 1980s since Dean Evans’ Fary Cry 3: Blood Dragon from back in 2013, but now the new Kung Fury: Street Rage game is looking to bring the movie to life in the form of a side-scrolling beat-’em-up. You don’t even have to wait for the game to release because it’s available right now.
The launch trailer for the game is a combination of the short film and some of the awesome fighting featured in the new game. You can check out the trailer below from PlayMassive.
The game itself was developed by Hello There AB and is a single-player game that borrows a lot of its gameplay mechanics from One Finger Death Punch, the stick-figure game where players use simplified controls to string together some awesome combos and amazing special moves.
Hello There’s 16-bit retro take on the Kung Fury film is delightfully simple and equally cheap. You won’t have to pay out more than $1.99 for the game over on Steam.
Steam user Cyclone Dust has an exquisite review of the game and writes in favor of gamers to purchase the $2 title, stating…
“The fact that it’s so aesthetically polished–not MERELY poor graphics but an entire suite of stylistic touches like glitches, rendering artifacts, all meant to evoke the limited hardware capacities of ages gone by–makes the whole experience an unexpected treat. Give it a whirl; you don’t have anything to lose! …except for maybe two bucks. But I humbly submit that it’s worth that much.”
If the user reviews, price and retro aesthetics aren’t enough to convince you to part coin from your pockets, maybe David Hasselhoff will be the nail in your purchasing decision coffin.
