Super World Karts is an indie kart-racing game (we’re getting a few of these lately) and it takes a page out of the Apogee handbook by harnessing the old Mode 7 style gameplay like Super Mario Kart on the SNES or Wacky Wheels. The game is currently seeking money over on Kickstarter, as well as support on Steam’s Greenlight service. Most notably is that there’s a stretch goal for the Wii U, Xbox One and PS4.
The game is being designed by Paul Hamilton from One Legged Seagull, and he wants to fully fund the development process instead of inching his way along at the current pace. He’ll just need a dedicated team to help bring the rest of the game to life, as outlined on the Kickstarter page.
The game will sport up to 30 total race tracks, mirror mode, time trial, four-player split-screen gameplay, battle modes, three different speed classes, eight main characters and up to 20 total characters to unlock.
You can see the game in action with the pitch video below.
This whole project is riddled with more nostalgia than a Rolling Stones concert at Madison Square Garden for local retirement home patrons.
I’m really glad we’re getting games like this because I loved, loved, loved these kind of games during the shareware era. Wacky Wheels was easily one of my favorite kart racers and I actually enjoyed it more than the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES, so seeing another game pick up the yoke and carry on a tradition that has nearly all but faded throughout the years is pretty sweet.

I’m hoping that not only will Hamilton get the game Kickstarted and greenlit for Steam but that he also manages to hit the stretch goals so we can see this game race its way over onto the Wii U. It could definitely use a few more games exactly like this.
If you want to help contribute to the cause feel free to check out the Kickstarter page. For a more wallet-off approach, just give some upvotes and favorites to the game over on the Steam Greenlight page.
