Destiny’s Beta Won’t Be 1080p For Xbox One, Epic Fail

Bungie Destiny

So it’s been confirmed that Destiny won’t be 1080p on the Xbox One when the beta goes live next week. But let’s back the bus up and get an understanding of what went down before getting to the nitty gritty.

So The Destiny Blog managed to get wind of the information from an IGN live-stream where Bungie confirmed that Destiny won’t be hitting 1080p for the Xbox One during the game’s beta test.

What they did reveal was that …”there’s always time for improvement.”

What this means is that – according to what’s being reported following the admission – Bungie will aim to hit 1080p for the Xbox One when launch-time rolls around. As we all know, 1080p for launch for a game that hasn’t already hit it before the game goes gold is about as likely as a pimply-faced, pencil-necked nerd being the dream guy for Megan Fox. It’s not impossible, but it’s not likely to happen… ever.

Previously, we saw this situation with games like EA Sports UFC, where the creative director Brian Hayes commented about the game possibly being 1080p for launch, but that never happened and the game ended up being stuck at 900p on both the Xbox One and PS4.

We also had the same thing happen with Titanfall… where Respawn Entertainment told Titanfallblog that they might up the resolution before the game’s release, as it was stuck running at 792p at 60 frames per second on the Xbox One. What happened at release time? Still 792p.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection from 343 Industries is also relegated to 900p in the campaign mode for Halo 2: Anniversary Edition, suffering the same problems as other games that also can’t hit 1080p like Colin Powell couldn’t find the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

In this case, Bungie is saying that they’re going to up the resolution to 1920 x 1080p for the Xbox One, as it’ll be running ata lower resolution for the beta. However, history tells us that the odds of that happening are slim or next to none.

The PlayStation 4, alternatively, will be running native 1080p in both the beta and on the full retail release. That’s some real power four the players, eh?

Destiny’s beta gets underway tomorrow for the PS3 and PS4 and will launch next week on July 23rd for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Need more info? Feel free to check out the official website.
