The Golden Foot Award for the Romanian Hagi

The Golden Foot is an International football award given to the players due of their athletic performance as individuals and as team players and for their personality. The winner of the Golden Foot, an award that can be reached only once in a lifetime, will leave a permanent mold of the personal footprints on The Champions Promenade of the seafront of the Principality of Monaco. The ceremony is accompanied by a charity action of gathering funds for fighting AIDS.
The Golden Foot Award is equivalent with the Hall of Fame in the field of the football.
Through the years few legends of the football, such as Maradona, Pele, Baggio, Zidane, George Best have received the Golden Foot for their contribution and brilliant career in the field of football. For the legend section of award have been recompensed with The Golden Foot also some German football players, such as Gerd Müller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Franz Beckenbauer and Lothar Matthäus. Until now were not some Romanian football players awarded with the Golden Foot.
This year, the Romanian former football player Gheorghe Hagi will be awarded for his fabulous career with the Golden Foot Trophy, through a ceremony that will take place at 21st September to Monte Carlo. Gheorghe Hagi will be the special guest of the Prince Albert of Monaco, who will award him the Golden Foot.
Gheorghe Hagi has been nicknamed through his career as the King of the Romanian Football, being the greatest Romanian footballer all the time or The Maradona of the Carpathians. Between 1980 and 1990 he was considered one of the best attack midfielders in Europe. He won a total of 137 caps for Romania, he played for Romania to the World Cups in 1990, 1994, 1998, and in three European Football Championships in 1984, 1996 and 2000.
In 2003 to the UEFA’s jubilee he was selected as the Golden Player of Romania, and in 2004 at the FIFA’s Awards he was called by Pele as one of The Greatest Living Footballers . He has played also for the Turkish football team Galatasaray Istanbul, as well for the both Spanish football teams Real Madrid and Barcelona.
