Which Streaming App Do You Prefer?

Streaming apps are gaining popularity now. They were even considered as the future of music. So expect in the future that there will be less CDs will be manufactured.

As a music lover, I found purchasing a CD or digital download as too expensive. When I heard about Spotify, I knew that there will be subscription. But when I began to learn how to use it and there’s one month free subscription, I availed of the Premium and now subscribed for almost a year. Premium subscription price here is cheap. In fact, you can buy an entire CD with the monthly subscription. It was just sad that after two months from subscribing, Spotify announced two months free subscription. That was tht time when Apple Music was established which offered 3 months free.

Talking about Apple Music, owned by Apple who also owned iTunes, they had established it to compete with the top brand Spotify. It might have already hurt the sales of music on iTunes that’s why they came out with that business model. Since I am not an Apple user, I never had the chance to avail them.

Deezer is another streaming app. There’s a built-in app in my phone but I never used it. I even deleted it. Pandora Internet Radio is also very popular but I haven’t used it. Not even planning to use it.

Google also has its own music called Google Play Music. There’s a built-in app on my phone but it is just a music player. I don’t think subscription is available in the country. I think YouTube Music, which was owned by Google, is not available in the country too.

Here in my country, telecom network Smart Communications, also established their own called Spinnr. I have a free subscription from my plan but I didn’t find it as easy to use as Spotify.

I would be sticking to Spotify when it comes to music streaming services. How about you guys? Which music streaming service do you prefer?

Top 5 Albums in My Playlist

Having a Spotify Premium account is such a blessing for music lovers that’s why I don’t mind paying a low subscription monthly since I can listen to songs and albums anytime I want. However, there are mainstream albums which I can’t listen on Spotify, particulary blockbuster albums like Taylor Swift’s “1989” and Adele’s “25”. So I just downloaded them online and I don’t have to go to the record stores to purchase it. Availing of music is already easier than ever before. As I look at my playlists, I listed down the albums that Iisten to lately. Here they are below, ranked from 5 to 1:

5. Florence and the Machine- How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
I think this is one of the best albums in 2015. It is somewhat more spiritual and deep while Florence Welch’s voice remains so haunting. My favorite cuts from the album were “What Kind of Man” and the title track.

4. Justin Bieber- Purpose
I admit, I disliked Justin Bieber before. Even downloading this album, I am skeptical to do it because of his behavior before. But I still downloaded it to hear what he has to offer, and this album is far more better than his past songs for the maturity of sound, as well as the meaningful lyrics. My favorite tracks off the record were “Mark My Words” and “Company”.

3. Ed Sheeran- X
Still a big fan of this album despite being out for more than a year. Ed Sheeran is just an amazing singer, songwriter, and musician. He is sp deep with his songs. My favorite tracks from the album “Bloodstream” and “Thinking Out Loud”.

2. Coldplay- A Head Full of Dreams
I admit, I preferred Coldplay’s old melancholic rock sound. But people do gets tired of hearing the same music so they did some experimentation. I began to appreciate their sound when it changes. Their “Ghost Stories” album has become their full length record not to showcase their old sound and was more on pop, edm, electronic, synth and ambient. While their current album “A Head Full of Dreams” is their more adventurous record. My favorite cuts were “Everglow” and “Hymn for the Weekend”.

1. Adele- 25
Some people call it overrated but that’s what highly successful albums get. If she is good at telling her heartbreak story in “21”, the new one “25”, is like she’s talking to you and telling stories. You can feel it from her vocals and emotions being input in the songs. Her vocal prowess is just a bonus, the depth was even more showcased. My favorite tracks were “When We Were Young” and “All I Ask”.

My Thoughts on Spotify

Anybody here uses Spotify? If you are not familiar of Spotify, it is a music streaming service where you can listen to your favorite songs. Once you joined or registered in this service, it’s like you entered a gateway to millions of songs all over the world. You can even listen ┬áto an entire album by an artist. Likewise, you can see and hear the catalog of your favorite artists. But take note, expect disturbing ads and you have the choice to upgrade to premium to enjoy more of its offers like saving songs or an entire album for offline listening. Once subscribed, you can listen to any songs you want. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of Taylor Swift, don’t expect all of her songs were there. Just late last year, she pulled up her albums from the service to coincide with the release of her blockbuster LP “1989”, as stated that the service pays low rates to the artists. This may had contributed to physical and digital sales of the album.

Well, my thought in this, I agree with some artists and even Spotify developers saying that streaming is the future of music. Why not? People loves listening to music for free. Surely, more people will download music streaming service apps in the future. Monthly subscription isn’t even too expensive. In some countries, monthly subscription costs at about $10. While here in the Philippines, it only costs $3 or PhP129. You can pay through credit card. But what I like is there’s another method of payment. If you have verified PayPal account, it’s one of the options for payment.

I support music streaming service like Spotify. Physical albums sales are declining due to other ways of music listening, illegal downloads and piracy. Spotify pays artists, and if an artist wants his/her music be heard, promotion is also important. More and more people are using the internet and social networking sites, it can be good medium to promote their records.

I am thankful to Spotify because I got to listen to my favorite music at the comfort of my phone legally. Indeed, Spotify will grow as well as other streaming services.
