Meghan Trainor- Title: Top 10 Singles in US and UK / Memorable Lines of a Song

Meghan Trainor- Title
United States- Meghan Trainor had a success of her own and has proven she is a no one-hit wonder. Her album which was a number 1 success in the country even gave her hit singles, most of them hitting the top 10. Here are those top 10 singles:
All About the Bass- #1
Lips are Movin’- #4
Like I’m Gonna Lose You (ft. John Legend)- #8
Meghan Trainor has accumulated at least three top 10 hits from “Title”. It started out with the song empowering people with large size “All About the Bass” which went to number 1 and 9x platinum awardee from RIAA. It was followed by the more upbeat and doo-wop influenced “Lips are Movin'” at number 4 with 4x platinum award,  and the ballad collaboration with John Legend “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” at number 8. She also reached number 14 with “Dear Future Husband”.

United Kingdom- Similar success was achieved by Meghan Trainor with her album “Title” in United Kingdom after peaking at number 1 spot. It also generated hits climbing up to the top 10 with these singles below:
All About the Bass- #1
Lips are Movin’- #2
Meghan Trainor had two singles to grace the top 10. “All About the Bass” did great not just for hitting number 1, rather achieving the 2x platinum mark as certified by BPI. Her second single “Lips are Movin'” was awarded with Gold Record and became a hit at number 2. She failed to chart to the top 10 with the single “Dear Future Husband” at number 20, and the ballad “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” at number 99.

Meghan Trainor has been very successful with the song “All About the Bass” as it is a worldwide number 1 hit. “Lips are Movin'” came closer though. However, despite a number 1 hit, I am not picking “All About the Bass” to share. I am sharing “Lips are Movin'” because I love the catchy tune and the rap part of Meghan Trainor too. So here’s that catchy song below:

Lips are Movin’
I know you’re lyin
‘Cause your lips are movin
Tell me do you think I’m dumb?
I might be young
But I ain’t stupid
Talking round in circles with your tongue
I gave you bass, you gave me sweet talk
Saying how I’m your number one
But I know you’re lyin
‘Cause your lips are movin
Baby, don’t ya know I’m done

Album’s Singles Review: Meghan Trainor “Title”

Meghan Trainor is one of the biggest artists in mainstream music in 2015 after scoring hit singles and a chart-topping album through “Title”. This debut album by Meghan Trainor contains pop songs with influence of doo wop and 1960’s  and 1970’s sound. The album has lots of catchy tunes which makes it an outstanding one. The album debuted at number 1 Billboard 200 albums. In United Kingdom, it went to number 1 too.

All About That Bass
“All About that Bass” was Meghan Trainor’s first ever single. It is a pop song with doo wop influence and talks about not allowing oneself to be fat-shamed and embracing what your size is. The song became a number 1 single worldwide and even sold about 11 million copies, according to IFPI.

Lips are Movin’
“Lips are Movin'” was released as the second single for “Title”. The song finally made Meghan Trainor as a hit-maker instead of a one-hit wonder after this song hit the top 5 in America. It also hit the top 10 globally and sold millions of singles downloads. It is an upbeat pop track with doo wop sound just like “All About That Bass”. But this song sounds catchier and cleaner than the first single with its rap verses.
Rate: 9.0 out of 10

Dear Future Husband
“Dear Future Husband” is a song which became controversial with its music video for sexism. The song went to top 20 in many countries including United States and UK. But the song is a sleeper hit for its longevity in music charts. The song is very catchy and the retro sound is very obvious in this track.
Rate: 8.25 out of 10

Like I Never Lose You (with John Legend)
Meghan Trainor and John Legend collaborated in this ballad. The two sang it very well, and was a beautiful ballad with so much soul from the two artists. The song went to top 10 in Billboard Hot 100, her fourth top 20 hit there.

Popular Artists Wins on Grammy Awards

I have been watching Grammy for several years and it seems the winners tonight don’t seem like who usually wins in Grammy Awards. Popularity is not an assurance to win the Grammys as winners are determined through the decision of the panel of judges. Even the most popular singer in a year don’t even win a minor category. During the 1990’s, the Spice Girls never achieved nominations. While Backstreet Boys and NSYNC who became extremely popular during their heydays never won an award. Britney Spears did not even win an award on her earlier success. She got to win a minor award after several years in the industry.

Justin Bieber never won an award until this year after winning for the song “Where are You Now” as a featured artist.  One Direction was never even nominated despite the critical acclaim in their recent records. Ariana Grande got nominations last year but didn’t receive an award.
With the major categories, Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, it seems those were not into pop or tennybopper music. But this year, those I predicted to win lost. While some of those that are my choices won. I had written my prediction and choices recently. The reason why I came out with those predictions because Grammys used to choose those who are underrated artists. Popular artists often defeated by less popular artists but it was not the case this year. In fact, with those four major categories, the winners were those popular.
Let’s start with Best New Artist, my choice is Meghan  Trainor. She is even the most mainstreamly successful among those nominated.I predicted James Bay to win, but the winner ended up as Meghan Trainor.
With Song of the Year, I expected and predicted Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright”, however, it went to my choice, Ed Sheeran. Knowing Lamar’s number of nominations, I expected him to win.
The Album of the Year winner is Taylor Swift with “1989”. I expected Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller” as it is generally acclaimed while Taylor shifted to pop music. Anyway, it is Taylor’s second time to win the category.
The Record of the Year winner this year was “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. I expected D’Angelo to win with “Really Love” but ended up to the upbeat song. My choice though was “Thinking Out Loud”. Good for “Uptown Funk” since it is the number one song of 2015.
Despite not winning the major categories, Kendrick Lamar won multiple awards. Congratulations to all the winners.

Performances Highlights in Grammy Awards

Grammy Awards had just wrapped up and the winners were finally announced. Aside from unexpected winners, there treat performances. The highlight performances was the tribute to the legendary soul singer Lionel Ritchie, rock legend Lemmy, and the late David Bowie. The Lionel Ritchie tribute performers were R&B singer John Legend, pop stars Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor, and country star Luke Bryan. After the artists mentioned performed, Luke and John escorted Lionel from the audience up to the stage and sung “All Night Long” as the closing of the performance. Hollywood Vampires made a hard rocking performance  too as a tribute to Lemmy.
Another tribute performance was Lady Gaga who paid homage to the late David Bowie. She’s dressed a la David Bowie. She is the perfect singer to do the tribute knowing Lady Gaga’s biggest influence was David Bowie which she vocally claimed when she is just starting as a mainstream artist. The background colorful effects of the performance is magnificent too.
Taylor Swift had a good performance top of her current single “Out of the Woods”. She has one of the most number of nominations this year after her highly successful album “1999”.
Justin Bieber finally performed on Grammy Awards too. It is his first time in the award show where he had his first win too as a featured artist for Skrillex and Diplo’s “Where are You Now?”, which he performed after an acoustic version of “Love Yourself“.
There were great duets too. I loved the performance of Andra Day and Ellie Goulding with the songs “Rise Up” and the popular “Love Me Like You Do”. Country stars Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood performed a mash-up of their songs.
One of the best performance was the one from rapper Kendrick Lamar which receives a standing ovation. The Weeknd also did good performing his songs. Miguel sang his own version of Michael Jackson’s “She’s Out of My Life”.
Adele’s performance is one of the most awaited. However, sound problem occurred during the performance which affected the supposedly magnificent performance. In just a few seconds of her performance, the sound or audio was lost. It is supposed to be an intimate performance with her vocals and piano, but there’s guitar and bass sound in some part. It is obvious on Adele’s face and even her voice that she was bothered but she continued. After her performance, Adele received standing ovation despite the glitch.
To close the show, Pitbull and Robin Thicke performed with party sounds.

My Prediction and Choice Winners for Grammy Awards 2016 (Best New Artist and Song of the Year)

Grammy Awards 2016 is approaching and in few hours, the winners will be announced. For artists and musicians, Grammy is the most prestigious award giving body in music industry. It will be held February 19, 2016 in the US, while here in the Philippines, it will be Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, I am making a prediction and my choice of winner in this two major categories such as Best New Artist and Song of the Year. Real winners were determined through the votes of Grammy panel.

Best New Artist

Courtney Barnett– She is an indie rock singer from Australia known for her album “Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit”.
James Bay– He is a British rock singer who scored a UK number one album “Chaos and the Calm” and the hit song “Hold Back the River”.
Sam Hunt– He is a country singer who had a platinum album “Montevallo”, and a number of top 30 platinum hits.
Tori Kelly– She is a pop singer who had a Billboard number two album “Unbreakable Smile”.
Meghan Trainor– She had a number album “Title” and scored hot singles worldwide. In fact, she is the most popular among the nominations list and already nominated in Grammys last year.
Choice: Meghan Trainor, for scoring a number of hits and great songs.
Prediction: James Bay, since Grammys has been unpredictable with decision and this singer is undeniably talented.

Song of the Year

“Alright” by Kendrick Lamar
One of Kendrick Lamar’s recordbreaking 11nominations, this song was co-written by Lamar along with others. It had a Billboard number 81 peak.
“Blank Space” by Taylor Swift
One of the biggest singles last 2015, it had peaked at number 1 in Billboard Hot 100, and high chart positions globally. Taylor Swift co-wrote this song with Max Martin and Shellback.
“Girl Crush” by Little Big Town
The only country song nominated in this category, the song went to number 18 in Hot 100.
“See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth
This is among the biggest singles worldwide in 2015 for reaching number one. It was co-written by Puth and Khalifa.
“Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran
It became one of the biggest hits of 2015, this ballad was also co-written by Sheeran.
Choice: “Thinking Out Loud”, it is one of my favorite songs and being a fan of Ed Sheeran.
Prediction“Alright”, Grammy prefer non-popular songs. Also, Kendrick Lamar has the most number of nominations.

Songs You Can Often Hear in Malls

When you are in a mall, you can hear loud music being played. Without music, shopping experience would be boring. I don’t mean the surroundings would be silent, rather, all you can hear is the noice from people chattering which is irritating to the ears. With music, it can neutralize the annoying noise and delightful sounds. While going to different malls, I often hear almost the same music so I made a lists of songs that I often hear.

Sia- Chandelier
This song is always played everywhere. You can even hear employees singing the song.

Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor- Marvin Gaye
I even hear this song sang by a child while in a mall. I was like, do you know what the song means?

Selena Gomez- Hands to Myself
I rarely hear her great song “Same Old Love ” in malls. But this new song by Selena Gomez was already played in a mall.

Justin Bieber- Love Yourself
This song by Justin Bieber is becoming overplayed. Even cover versions were even played is malls.

Charlie Puth- One Call Away
Charlie Puth seems becoming a favorite in malls. Aside from “Marvin Gaye”, this sing is becoming overplayed as well.

Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj- Bang Bang
This song is still played often, and if airplay in malls was included in music charts, it might still be in the top 10.

Sheppard- Geronimo
To be honest, I first heard this song in the mall. Since it is catchy and the lyrics amde it easier to guess the title, I downloaded the song. Until now, it is still often played in malls.

Ed Sheeran- Thinking Out Loud
Well, this song is still overplayed in malls for more than a year ago. However, it has declined at the moment.

Meghan Trainor and John Legend- Like I Never Lose You
The ballad is lovely and often played on radio. It is also overplayed on radio.

Carly Rae Jepsen- I Really Like You
The word “really” may have been overused, but it seems employees in the mall never gets tired of it.

Trends and Cliches in Mainstream Music (Since 2010)

Since 2010, there are a lot of changes in music industry and we also witnessed how album sales went down. Though, we saw the success and record breaking success of Adele as the most successful artist in this era. Here are some of the trends and cliches in music industry since 2010:

Electronic dance music (EDM)
Electronic dance music continued to dominate all the genres. We heard successful records from David Guetta, Avicci, Calvin Harris, Zedd, and a lot more. Even most pop stars and even R&B singers sung a lot of dance music, showing how popular the genre is. Some of them were Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Usher, and a lot more.

Music crossover to pop
There were a lot of artists who changed or tried other genres which led to their notable success, though some did not succeed. Maroon 5 may already had pop hits before 2010, however, they became full time pop band with their 2012 album “Overexposed” and their recent “V”. Taylor Swift is the most successful in crossing over to pop. She gave a taste of pop tunes in her partly pop, partly country album “Red”. With her latest album “1989”, she became a fully-pledged pop star.

Formerly teen stars going sexy
There were a lot young stars before 2010 who took the “good girl, gone bad” route. Miley Cyrus became the most controversial who went naked in “Wrecking Ball”, magazine covers, parties and the raunchy performance on VMA 2013. Selena Gomez also went naked in her current album cover “Revival” and music video. Demi Lovato also went sexier on her new album “Confident”.

Million selling first week
It seems the phenomenon during first half of 2000s is happening since 2010 despite the sales are going down with albums. Taylor Swift has the most nunber of albums to reach the million threshold. Her third studip release “Speak Now” reached over 1.04 million on its first week according to Soundscan. Her fourth album “Red” sold higher with 1.21 million, while her recent and current album exceeded 1.28 million. But the recordbreaker and fastest among all was Adele’s “25”, which exceeded 3.38 million.

Soundtracks
Soundtrack albums did well since 2010. “Frozen” is the most successful which became very successful in 2014. Other successful soundtracks were “Fifty Shades of Grey”, Pitch Perfect 1 and 2, “Furious 7”, “Glee” albums, and a lot more.

Retro music
It seems retro and old music is incorporated in music of some pop stars. Meghan Trainor is known for her pop, soul and doo wop sound on her “Title” album. Charlie Puth incorporated Motown sound on his music, and the 80’s sound on Carly Rae Jepsen’s sound on her “Emotions” LP.

Surprise releases of albums
Beyonce broke record for releasing surprise album and went to number 1 with massive sales. Other artists followed suit which included Drake.

Memorable Lines in Songs: Meghan Trainor and Lorde

Meghan Trainor
Meghan Trainor was known for songs empowering women and there’s sort of feminism. Still, she had some love sings too.

All About That Bass
” You know I won’t be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll
So if that what you’re into, then go ‘head and move along”
A song about loving whatever your shape is. She might not be that sexy and doesn’t have the perfect curves, then it’s fine if the guy doesn’t like it.

Lips ar Movin’
“But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye
Bye-bye-bye”
The guy may be cheating and the girl is saying goodbye like she doesn’t need him.

Dear Future Husband
” You gotta know how to treat me like a lady
Even when I’m acting crazy
Tell me everything’s alright”
It seems the girl has lots of demands from his future husband which includes accepting for what she is even she is acting kind of unusual. Hhmmm…

Like I’m Gonna Lose You (with John Legend)
” When we’ll run out of time so I’m gonna love you
Like I’m gonna lose you”
It’s like giving all your love to the person because we don’t know that someday, the one you’re with will be gone.

Lorde
This singer from New Zealand writes songs about the lifestyles celebrities used to which she is tryinh to avoid, love and being a teenager.

Royals
“But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom.
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,”
The kind of life celebrities are living like, which the person does ‘t want to act like.

Team
” We live in cities you’ll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things”
It’s like looking back to the place you had once live and living an ordinary life in an ordinary city, but life is great there.

Tennis Court
” Baby be the class clown
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care”
It’s like living the kind of life people wants to but for Lorde, it’s just nothing and doesn’t care.
