Music 10 L’s: Lauryn Hill to Limp Bizkit

1. Lauryn Hill
She’s formerly the vocalist and a member of The Fugees and became a successful solo artist with her album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”. She is a magnificent artist but I wonder where is she now.

2. La Isla Bonita
A single by the Queen of Pop Madonna. It was Spanish inspired and one of the biggest hits off her multi-platinum hit album “True Blue” from the 80s.

3. Lil Wayne
He is a very popular rapper during the second half of 2000s. His popular hit song was “Lollipop” while his popular album was “The Carter”, which had its sequel.

4. Lady Gaga
She is one of the top female artists emerged during the late 2000s. She seemed under hiatus now after her album “Artpop” underperformed.

5. Linkin Park
One of my favorite bands ever. They seemed on a break but hoping they will release new materials soon. Haven’t heard from them for a long time. I miss those “Hybrid Theory” days.

6. Last Resort
The first ever song I heard from the rock band Papa Roach. It is a great track but none of their succeeding tracks matched it.

7. Lorde
She’s a popular singer from New Zealand. I love the style of her songs and the message. She’s young but already a great songwriter.

8. Let Her Go
A nice but sad love song from Passenger. It was one of the biggest hits during the recent years. I love the folk feel of the song.

9. Let It Go
One of the biggest selling singles recently. It wad due to the success of the animated movie “Frozen”. The song may not have reached number 1 in different countries, but it was a sleeper hit song.

10. Limp Bizkit
The band was very hot then, but popularity was taken over by Linkin Park. They had great songs such as “Take a Look Around”,  “My Way” and “Rollin'”.

Lorde- Pure Heroine: Top 10 Singles in US and UK

Lorde- Pure Heroine
United States- As her debut album was released, Lorde achieved success in United States as her album “Pure Heroine” had gone triple platinum as awarded by RIAA. It also had a high peak at the top 3. She is the most successful artist from New Zealand to ever grace the United States. She even became a very popular star in the country through this sound of her as a rare kind of artist.  She also achieved similar success with her singles. Check those successful singles as they reached the top 10 below:
Royals- #1
Team- #6
With just her debut single, Lorde got a momentum for reaching number 1 with Royals. It was even very successful for being awarded with 7x platinum. She also achieved success with her upbeat track “Team” when it reached number 6 and was awarded with 4x platinum. Lorde also charted with some of her songs but peaked lower. First was “Tennis Court” at number 71 and followed by “Glory and Gore” with number 68.

United Kingdom- Lorde also had hits in United Kingdom. Aside from a top 5 album with “Pure Heroine” and achieved certification from BPI, she also scored a top 10 hit. Yeah, just one top 10 single.
Royals- #1
Lorde really had gone successful elsewhere with her single “Royals” including United Kingdom when it also went to number 1. She also charted with some of her songs like “Tennis Court” (number 78), “Team” (number 29), and the Brit Awards performancd of “Royals” and “White Noise” at number 72.

Lorde’s biggest hit ever both in United States and United Kingdom was “Royals” which reached number 1 in both countries. Elsewhere, it was also well-received. The song has a great R&B beat and talks about the lifestylez of the rich and famous, particularly celebrities, which she doesn’t want to become. I am sharing thay great song below and groove with its beat, and sing with its melodic tune:

Album’s Singles Review: Lorde “Pure Heroine”

“Pure Heroine” is the first album of Lorde, despite releasing an EP prior. The album is a great album with its electro pop and trip hop sounds on it. Lorde also showcased her beautifully dark voice. It went on to become a successful record after selling millions of copies worldwide. The album was a success in rock charts, despite not being a real rock album.

Royals
“Royals” was released as the first single from the album which was great choice. The song became very known for referencing avoiding the superstar way of life. It is an electropop song with R&B beats on it. It became globally successful worldwide, but a surprise “rock” hit in America reaching number 1, despite not sounding rock.

Tennis Court
“Tennis Court” was released as second single, and a simple beautiful song with its simple beat and verses. I love the combination of pop, electronic, trip hop, and R&B in this song. The song entered music charts but not as successful as “Royals”. It went to top 10 in rock charts though. The music video shows Lorde in a plain background with some creepy facial expressions.
Rate: 8.75 out of 10

Team
“Team” is the third single from “Pure Heroine”. It also served as her second most successful single from the album after charting in numerous countries, including the top 10 in America. The song is more upbeat than “Royals” with darker beats and vocals. The intro reminds me of “American Life” by Madonna, and the lyrics is a good way to pay tribute to where she came from.
Rate: 9.5 out of 10

No Better
“No Better” was released as a promotional single and did not received a widespread release. It is the lightest single released from the album.
Rate: 8.5 out of 10

Glory and Gore
“Glory and Gore” is the last single from “Pure Heroine”. It is a good electro pop song with dark vocals, wordings, and sound. Despite the low sound, it can be considered her darkest single being released.

Albums that are more successful than its singles (2013-2014)

During 2013 to 2014, here are the multi-million selling albums with underperforming singles worldwide:

Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience
The album became one of the biggest selling albums of 2013 and served as a huge comeback of Justin Timberlake. Despite its huge sales, it only scored two major and official hit singles “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors”. The reason may be, the volume two was released at the same year.

Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
The album is one of the biggest albums of 2013 either critically or commercially. It scored the big selling single “Get Lucky”, but no other singles were released after that.

One Direction – Midnight Memories
One Direction scored their thord worldwide number one album through “Midnight Memories”. It scored the sleeper hit “Story of My Life”. “Best Song Ever” peaked high chart positions but had short chart life. Two other singles were released but peaked lower in charts.

Michael Bublé – To Be Loved
Michael Buble again scored another hit album through this record. However, as usual, he never scored a genuine hit single again. Still, he was considered an albums artist

Soundtrack – Frozen
The soundtrack album used to be the biggest selling album worldwide of 2014. It had scored chart positions like the song “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman” and the hit “Let it Go”. Despite its successful songs, it did not match the soundtrack album’s success.

Beyoncé – Beyoncé
The album was known for surprise release and sold a lot of copies. It waa successful worldwide and was one of the biggest sellers of 2013 and 2014. Several singles was released but only “Drunk in Love” peaked at a high position.

Lorde – Pure Heroine
Lorde did very well with her single “Royals” which helped the album’s success. The album achieved long term success but did not score another big hit except “Team”. Other singles released failed to reach the top 40.

Memorable Lines in Songs: Meghan Trainor and Lorde

Meghan Trainor
Meghan Trainor was known for songs empowering women and there’s sort of feminism. Still, she had some love sings too.

All About That Bass
” You know I won’t be no stick figure silicone Barbie doll
So if that what you’re into, then go ‘head and move along”
A song about loving whatever your shape is. She might not be that sexy and doesn’t have the perfect curves, then it’s fine if the guy doesn’t like it.

Lips ar Movin’
“But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye
Bye-bye-bye”
The guy may be cheating and the girl is saying goodbye like she doesn’t need him.

Dear Future Husband
” You gotta know how to treat me like a lady
Even when I’m acting crazy
Tell me everything’s alright”
It seems the girl has lots of demands from his future husband which includes accepting for what she is even she is acting kind of unusual. Hhmmm…

Like I’m Gonna Lose You (with John Legend)
” When we’ll run out of time so I’m gonna love you
Like I’m gonna lose you”
It’s like giving all your love to the person because we don’t know that someday, the one you’re with will be gone.

Lorde
This singer from New Zealand writes songs about the lifestyles celebrities used to which she is tryinh to avoid, love and being a teenager.

Royals
“But every song’s like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin’ in the bathroom.
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin’ the hotel room,”
The kind of life celebrities are living like, which the person does ‘t want to act like.

Team
” We live in cities you’ll never see on screen
Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things”
It’s like looking back to the place you had once live and living an ordinary life in an ordinary city, but life is great there.

Tennis Court
” Baby be the class clown
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care”
It’s like living the kind of life people wants to but for Lorde, it’s just nothing and doesn’t care.
