I made this list since we only heard few female rappers in the music industry. This industry apparently have overabundance of male rappers as they dominates rap music world and had only a handful of female rappers who became notable.
Here’s the list of top 5 female rappers that made impact:
5. Lil Kim
Lil Kim has been industry for 2 decades and scored multiple hip-hop hits and platinum albums in the US. However, she became more known as she joined Christina Aguilera, Mya and Pink for the remake of “Lady Marmalade” as the theme of the hit musical film “Moulin Rouge”. She scored her biggest solo hit with the song “Magic Stick”. Her most notable and controversial appearance was when her breast was almost exposed with her wardrobe.
4. Lisa Lopes
Lisa Lopes became popular via her hit group TLC. They had numerous hit and multi-platinum albums like “Crazy Sexy Cool” and “Fanmail”. Her most memorable rap piece was the rap part of “Waterfalls”. Moreover, she had been featured in different songs which included the European and Asian hit “Never Be the Same Again” by former Spice Girl Melanie C. Her solo efforts didn’t made impact though
3. Iggy Azalea
Among the ladies in this list, Iggy is the most controversial based on her statements especially in social media. She’s the only female white rapper on the list too. Iggy achieved global success with hit single “Fancy” and her album which despite negative reviews achieve top 5 positions worldwide.
2. Nicki Minaj
Nicki achieved the most number of hits charted either solo hits or as featured artists. She also earned big hits which the three most famous songs of her were “Super Bass”, “Starships” and the controversial ” Anaconda”. She recently won a VMA for the song latter mentioned.
