1. Lauryn Hill
She’s formerly the vocalist and a member of The Fugees and became a successful solo artist with her album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”. She is a magnificent artist but I wonder where is she now.

A single by the Queen of Pop Madonna. It was Spanish inspired and one of the biggest hits off her multi-platinum hit album “True Blue” from the 80s.

5. Linkin Park
One of my favorite bands ever. They seemed on a break but hoping they will release new materials soon. Haven’t heard from them for a long time. I miss those “Hybrid Theory” days.

6. Last Resort
The first ever song I heard from the rock band Papa Roach. It is a great track but none of their succeeding tracks matched it.

7. Lorde
She’s a popular singer from New Zealand. I love the style of her songs and the message. She’s young but already a great songwriter.

8. Let Her Go
A nice but sad love song from Passenger. It was one of the biggest hits during the recent years. I love the folk feel of the song.

9. Let It Go
One of the biggest selling singles recently. It wad due to the success of the animated movie “Frozen”. The song may not have reached number 1 in different countries, but it was a sleeper hit song.

10. Limp Bizkit
The band was very hot then, but popularity was taken over by Linkin Park. They had great songs such as “Take a Look Around”,  “My Way” and “Rollin'”.

Mariah Carey’s album which sounds more on R&B and hip-hop. There’s also a track which was released as the second single called “Butterfly”. It is oen of her lovely ballads.

Music Rivalies: Whitney Houston & Mariah Carey / Lady Gaga & Katy Perry

The most common artists that are getting involved in music rivalries were female singers. Either from decades ago to the present time, rivalry is already happening in female artists’ rivalry already exists.

Whitney Houston vs  Mariah Carey
Whitney Houston debuted in music in mid-1980s. After 5 years, then Mariah Carey released her self-titled debut album. Despite debuting with wide gap of years, media has considered them as rivals. Both has high vocal range. They were both R&B and pop stars. They both sing mostly ballads. Whitney Houston is already a global superstar when Mariah released her debut. While Mariah can’t hardly be said as a global superstar at the time. In America, she is, but internationally, her success is quite limited. But Mariah’s global success came through her album “Music Box, which at that time, Whitney is focused in making movies and soundtrack albums. Whitney’s fourth studio album took about 8 years in between her third album. Whitney became huge though with her soundtrack album “The Bodyguard”. Sadly, her success went downhill and had been through problems until she passed. Mariah Carey though, still makes music despite failing to sell as her old glory days. The two got to work together with the song “When You Believe”.

Lady Gaga vs Katy Perry
Katy Perry has started in Christian music genre. However, her success came through her controversial song “I Kissed a Girl”. Despite successful releases, her album is not as stellar. She was considered as a superstar upon her album “Teenage Dream” which scored a lot of number one singles. Success continued with her album “Prism”. Her considered rivalry was Lady Gaga. I wonder why they were considered as rivals since both has different styles and music. Lady Gaga was more outrageous. In Gaga’s earlier career, she is very popular and even became the world’s biggest music star. But with her recent albums, she underperformed. The reason I can see why the two were considered as rivals was due to both do weird stuff and both once thrown shade to each other.

Performances Highlights in Grammy Awards

Grammy Awards had just wrapped up and the winners were finally announced. Aside from unexpected winners, there treat performances. The highlight performances was the tribute to the legendary soul singer Lionel Ritchie, rock legend Lemmy, and the late David Bowie. The Lionel Ritchie tribute performers were R&B singer John Legend, pop stars Demi Lovato and Meghan Trainor, and country star Luke Bryan. After the artists mentioned performed, Luke and John escorted Lionel from the audience up to the stage and sung “All Night Long” as the closing of the performance. Hollywood Vampires made a hard rocking performance  too as a tribute to Lemmy.
Another tribute performance was Lady Gaga who paid homage to the late David Bowie. She’s dressed a la David Bowie. She is the perfect singer to do the tribute knowing Lady Gaga’s biggest influence was David Bowie which she vocally claimed when she is just starting as a mainstream artist. The background colorful effects of the performance is magnificent too.
Taylor Swift had a good performance top of her current single “Out of the Woods”. She has one of the most number of nominations this year after her highly successful album “1999”.
Justin Bieber finally performed on Grammy Awards too. It is his first time in the award show where he had his first win too as a featured artist for Skrillex and Diplo’s “Where are You Now?”, which he performed after an acoustic version of “Love Yourself“.
There were great duets too. I loved the performance of Andra Day and Ellie Goulding with the songs “Rise Up” and the popular “Love Me Like You Do”. Country stars Sam Hunt and Carrie Underwood performed a mash-up of their songs.
One of the best performance was the one from rapper Kendrick Lamar which receives a standing ovation. The Weeknd also did good performing his songs. Miguel sang his own version of Michael Jackson’s “She’s Out of My Life”.
Adele’s performance is one of the most awaited. However, sound problem occurred during the performance which affected the supposedly magnificent performance. In just a few seconds of her performance, the sound or audio was lost. It is supposed to be an intimate performance with her vocals and piano, but there’s guitar and bass sound in some part. It is obvious on Adele’s face and even her voice that she was bothered but she continued. After her performance, Adele received standing ovation despite the glitch.
To close the show, Pitbull and Robin Thicke performed with party sounds.
