Album’s Singles Review: Kesha “Animal”

Kesha reached success and became not just a singles artist, rather an albums artist too when her debut album called “Animal” debuted at number in the US. In other countries, the album went to top 10 gaining some certifications too. The album had a lot of club ready tracks through her electronic, dance and pop songs. The album just have fun songs which can make you move freely and dance.

“Tik-Tok” was released as Kesha’s first single for her album “Animal”. It is a fun song and in fact, I thought she’s the one who can rival Lady Gaga, but no comparisons or competition happened between them. The song is made for the clubs as the lyrics talks about. It eventually became a worldwide hit reaching number 1. As reported, the song sold about 15 million downloads worldwide.

Blah Blah Blah (ft. 3OH3)
“Blah Blah Blah” was released as the second single off the album “Animal”. It is an electropop song which she worked with collaborators 3OH3. It sounds good but the lyrics doesn’t sound good to me. Comparing to “Tik-Tok”, this song was way below the first single. Kesha’s song uses auto-tunes but it is very obvious in this song. It charted in several countries and in America, it reached number 7, her second top 10 there.

Your Love is My Drug
“Your Love is My Drug” is the third single from Kesha’s album “Animal”. The song is just very catchy and it is the second catchiest single released from the album. It even became the second biggest single from the album after peaking at number 4 in Billboard Hot 100, and top 10 in other countries.
Rate: 8.5 out of 10

Take it Off
“Take it Off” is a fun and catchy single. It was just too processed with auto-tune and sounded unoriginal. It became Kesha’s fourth consecutive single to reach the top 10 in the US.

Artists who Wrote Songs for Other Artists Before Achieving Solo Success

Aside from being singers, there are some of these singers who are really good at song writing. In fact, these artists first wrote songs before becoming successful solo singers.
Here are some of the artists who first became songwriters before achieving solo success as singers:

Sam Smith
Before Sam Smith became successful off his debut album “In the Lonely Hour”, which he also wrote the songs there, Sam Smith first wrote “Latch” by Disclosure, which he sang all of the vocals. But the song “La, La, La” by Naughty Boy became a bigger hit worldwide. Then his solo effort became a success after that.

Jessie J
Before achieving success in 2011 as a singer, Jessie J wrote a song first which was given to other singer. That was the very popular tune “Party in the USA”, performed by Miley Cyrus. After that, she wrote songs for herself.

Sia was already a singer more than a decade ago but only with her album “1000 Forms of Fear” when she was recognized worldwide as a singer. Before her international solo success, she has co-written numerous songs not just for herself but for other singers too. She was credited for her songwriting for songs performed by Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce, and more. One of her most successful song written was “Diamonds” by Rihanna.

Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars became successful as a solo singer in 2010 via his debut album “Doo-Wops and Hooligans” and the hit “Just the Way You Are”, from then on, he became a huge superstar. Before that success, he wrote heaps of songs for other artists. Aside from writing and singing for the songs “Nothin’ on You” and “Billionaire”, one of the songs known he wrote was “Long Distance” by Brandy.

Ryan Tedder of One Republic
Ryan Tedder was known as the vocalist of the band One Republic. Before achieving success with his band, Ryan wrote a lot of songs prior which included songs for Leona Lewis, Jennifer Lopez, Hillary Duff, and a lot more. Since then, he became one of the most sought songwriters other artists work with.

Kesha is a successful singer as well as a songwriter of her songs and for other artists like Britney Spears. Before her singing career, she wrote the song “This Love” by The Veronicas.

Singers Who Were Featured Artists Before Solo Success

To promote an artist, they were first featured in other or established artists’ songs. After their exposure, they released their own works which eventually acheived notable success. Here are some of those artists who accomplished such:

Before scoring her first hit single “Foolish” in 2002, she was first featured in a song by Big Pun called “How We Roll”  The song peaked inside the top 15 of Billboard Hot 100. However, her appearance in Ja Rule’s “Always on Time” achieved remarkable success when it peaked at number one. After that, she scored her first solo number one hit and album, and featured in a ton of songs again.

Christina Milian
Christina Millian gained success after hitting the top 30 of Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 with “AM to PM”, and eventually a top 5 hit with “Dip it Low”. However, she was first seen on Ja Rule’s “Between Me and You” in 2000.

Bruno Mars
Bruno Mars is currently one of the top male artists today for scoring number one hits and millions of records. But before he achieved solo success, we heard him first in the number one B.O.B. hit song “Nothin’ on You” and the worldwide top ten hit “Billionaire”. That seems a good pre-solo career success.

Keri Hilson
Keri Hilson has been featured a number of times before scoring her number 3 hit “Knock You Down”. Her first successful featured artist single was “The Way I Are” by Timbaland from the stellar album “Shock Value” then followed by “Scream” by Timbaland again.

We’d known Kesha for her hit single “Tik Tok” and tons of top ten danceable hits. But before her solo success, she was heard in a song which didn’t give much credits to her contrubution in the song “Right Round” by Flo Rida.

Sam Smith
British singer Sam Smith may be enjoying success now, however, before his solo success, he was already heard as featured artist in hit songs like “Latch” by Disclosure and the worldwide hit “La, La, La” by Naughty Boy.

Beyonce is one of the most successful singers nowadays. Everybody knows how successful she is as a solo singer and part of the hit group Destiny’s Child. However, she was first featured in a song “I Got That” by Amil in 2000 when she’s still with Destiny’s Child. Before hit solo single “Crazy in Love” and debut album’s success, she was also featured in Jay-Z’s “03 Bonnie and Clyde”.

Memorable Lines in Songs: Kesha and Leona Lewis

Kesha became popular because of its electronic sounds with theme more often about partying. She also had love songs too, nevertheless.

Tik Tok
” Don’t stop, make it pop
DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, Imma fight
‘Til we see the sunlight”
It was about partying with loud music and and the party goes on overnight along with drinking.

Your Love is My Drug
” My friends think I’ve gone crazy
My judgment’s gettin’ kinda hazy”
When friends are reminding you as you are acting usually with a guy you are addictedly in love.

We R Who We R
” We’re tearin’ it apart part-part pa-pa-part
You know we’re superstars, we are who we are!”
It’s like we don’t care about others and think we are superstars because we are who we are and not somebody else.

” C’mon ’cause I know what I like
And you’re looking just like my type
Let’s go for it just for tonight”
It’s like going out tonight and party with the one you like. Just reminds me of “Tik Tok”.

Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis became popular as a winner of X-Factor UK. She topped the charts then and had songs about love, heartbreaks, etc.

Bleeding Love
” But nothing’s greater than the rush that comes with your embrace
And in this world of loneliness, I see your face”
It’s like longing for the embrace by the one you love, but sadness covered you and kept hurting because you still love him/her.

Better than Time
” I’m gonna smile cause I deserve to
It’ll all get better in time”
It’s telling yourself to smile because that’s what you deserve but you’rr still hurting and hoping things will better at the right time.

Forgive Me
” Forgive me if I found a man
Who understands just what I need ”
You already found a new love but asking the forgiveness of your previous love. Hhmmm… I don’t think it does need to ask for forgiveness.

” Don’t care about all the pain in front of me
Cause i’m just trying to be happy, yeah”
You still love that person and you are there to witness his vow with other person. You don’t mind if you’ll get hurt. You just want to be there because seeing that person makes you happy.
