Janet (album)
With the success of her previous albums “Control” and “Rhythm Nation 1814”, which established her as a role model for her socially conscious songs, Janet Jackson released her album which was sexually charged record simply entitled “Janet”. The album explored not just deep themes, rather her sounds too into R&B pop appropriate with the year it was released. It eventually became her most successful album worldwide.

That’s the Way Love Goes
“That’s the Way Love Goes” has been released as the debut single off Janet Jackson’s album “Janet”. The song is a mid-tempo R&B song with somewhat adult lyrics. The song became a global hit reaching number 1 and top 10 in most countries.

She was one of the top female artists ever with multi-platinum albums. Being a sister of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, she didn’t relied on him to succeed. She became successful on her own.

2. Just Give Me a Reason
Pink collaborated with Fun. lead singer Nate Ruess in this song which produced a masterpiece. It is one of the best pop tunes during the recent years by two great vocalists.

3. James Morrison
He is a British male singer who came out with the hit “You Give Me Something”. He has a raspy yet soulful voice. I love listening to his music like the songs “You Make It Real” and “Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore”.

4. Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)
Pussycat Dolls sang this song which produced and featured Indian musician A.R. Rahman. The song was Indian inspired and sound very catchy. It was also the theme song of “Slumdog Millionaire”.

5. Jennifer Lopez
Aside from being a great actress, Jennifer Lopez is a singer too and one of the top female singers since 2000. And of course, she is a great dancer. I think she is one of the top singers and dancers at the same time.

6. Jealous
This is the first official big hit by Nick Jonas. The song has been in the top 10 in many countries. According to him, it is dedicated to her girlfriend then Olivia Culpo. Hhmmm. Well, it is a catchy track.

7. Joss Stone
She is a UK soul singer and I really love her voice. It’s like she is singing for me and serenading me when listening to her songs.

8. Jessie J.
She is a British pop star which had recent hit songs such as “Price Tag” and “Bang Bang” (with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj). She also has a great voice, and a good songwriter too.

9. Jackie
An album from R&B singer Ciara. It included the R&B hit “I Bet”. It is a good album, but the first album sounds even better.

10. Just Lose It
It is a song by rapper Eminem. In this song, you can hear how Em dissed the King of Pop Michael Jackson. It was featured from the album “Encore”.

Music 10 A’s: Alanis Morissette to Adele

1. Alanis Morissette

I love Alanis Morissette’s music especially with her album “Jagged Little Pill”. It is just a very honest record, and Alanis is a deep songwriter and a good vocalist.

2. Apologize
This is a song from Timbaland with real vocals of Ryan Tedder along with his band One Republic. Melody-wise and story-wise, it’s a good song. No doubt, it became a huge hit song.

3. Always Be My Baby
A song by Mariah Carey during mid-1990’s. American Idol winner David Cook had its own rock version, but Mariah’s version is way better.

4. All Saints
The time they came out, it was like move over Spice Girls. Ther were the new girl band at that time to watch. They became successful, though, not as successful as the Spice Girls. I love their R&B and pop style.

5. All the Right Reasons
Actually, the best selling album by Canadian rock band Nickelback. It generated a lot of hits and ny favorite was “Photograph”. Take note, it’s a different song from Ed Sheeran.

6. As Long As You Love Me
It is one of the earliest hits of Backstreet Boys in 1997. It was a pop song, and my cousin and sister loves it because they were Backstreet Boys fans. Justin Bieber had an “As Long As You Love Me” song as well, but a totally different song.

7. Aqua
Going back to the second half of 1990’s, that was the time when Danish group Aqua became popular. Surely, a lot danced with their hits like “Barbie Girl” and “Doctor Jones.

8. Always
Bon Jovi’s hit songs back in early 1990’s. It is a rock ballad which was one of their most notable hits. I always thought its title was “Romeo was Bleeding”. Lol!

9. America
Not referring to the country, rather, the band America. Surely, they based theor name with their country. I like their hit “Horse With No Name”, which was sampled by MIchael Jackson in a song, likewise Janet Jackson for her “Someone to Call My Lover” song. I always hear their music as my brother had a CD of them.

10. Adele
She is actually one of the best vocalist and most successful singer at this time. Well, her “25” LP just became the fastest selling album.

Rhythm Nation: 1814 (album)
Janet Jackson achieved her breakthrough apart from the shadow of Jacksons on her previous album “Control”. This time she has proven she can do so much more. Her socially relevant songs from the album made this an outstanding album which was highly acclaimed. The album again reached number 1 in the US and certified 8x platinum.

Miss You Much
“Miss You Much” became the lead single from Janet Jackson’s album “Rhythm Nation: 1814”. The R&B dance pop song has been one of Janet’s notable hits. It reached number 1 at the Billboard Hot 100.

Celine Dion
United States- Celine Dion is actually one of the biggest selling female artists in United States. She has scored at least four albums to reach number 1. Her two first number 1 albums “Falling Into You” and “Let’s Talk About Love” went 10x platinum. She also went number 1 with “All the Way: A Decade of Songs” (compilation album) and “A New Day Has Come” (comeback album after hiatus) which went 8x and 3x platinum by RIAA, respectively. She had many more albums which went top 10.
United Kingdom- Celine Dion was very successful in United Kingdom too. She had scored five number 1 albums there which started with “The Colour of My Love” which went 5x platinum. It was followed by UK million sellers “Falling Into You”, then “Let’s Talk About Love”. Her compilation album “All the Way: A Decade of Songs” went number 1 too and gone 4x platinum, and followed by her last number 1 album ” A New Day Has Come”. She scored several top 10 albums too. Certifications were given by BPI.

Janet Jackson
United States- Janet Jackson may have failed on her first two albums but she eventually scored 7 total of number 1 albums. Her breakthough album was “Control”, her first number 1 album and went 5x platinum. It was followed by the 6x platinum awardee by RIAA “Rhythm Nation 1814”. Her first adult themed “janet.” went to number 1 too and reached 8x platinum. Her next charttopping albums were “The Velvet Rope” and “All for You”. Her last two number 1 albums were “Discipline” and “Unbreakable”. Sales of both albums though were underwhelming.
United Kingdom- Janet Jackson had a number of platinum and multi-platinum albums, but she only scored one number 1 albums in UK. That was “janet.”  which was certified double platinum by BPI. She had number two hit albums though. Some of her albums still sod well.

“Control” was considered as the breakthrough album by Janet Jackson, despite releasing two albums prior. The first two albums just underperformed, while “Control” gave Janet her first number 1 album. The album had sold very well internationally too. It has R&B, pop and danceable songs tgat can make you groove.

What Have You Done for Me Lately
“What Have You Done for Me Lately” is the first single from the album, likewise Janet Jackson’s first official hit when it was a success in international music scene. The R&B and dance song peaked at number 4 in United States, and number 3 in UK.
