Gwen Stefani- The Sweet Escape: Top 10 Singles in US and UK

Gwen Stefani- The Sweet Escape
United States- Gwen Stefani got another hit album with “The Sweet Escape”. But not as successful as the hit album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.”. “The Sweet Escape” was certified by RIAA with platinum. Sales were lower than the debut album of her. The LP also had successful singles which the list below were the top 10 hits:
Wind It Up- #6
The Sweet Escape- #2
From five singles released, two of them went to the top 10. The first one was the number 6 hit “Wind It Up” then followed by the catchy number 2 single “The Sweet Escape”. She also charted with “4 in the Morning” but at a lower position of number 54.

United Kingdom- “The Sweet Escape” was a success with platinum award from BPI, unlike her higher selling “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” album. It is indeed a hit album for scoring hit singles too. Their top 10 singles from the album was listed below:
Wind It Up- #3
The Sweet Escape- #2
Gwen Stefani also scored two top 10 hits from the album in United Kingdom. Two of those songs even hit the top 3 which started with the yodelling song “Wind It Up” and the song assisted by Akon “The Sweet Escape”. Gwen also had two other songs charted with “4 in the Morning” at number 22, and “Now That You Got It” at number 59.

In both US and UK, Gwen Stefani got two singles to chart. The first one was “Wind It Up” and then “The Sweet Escape”. But “The Sweet Escape” was a bigger hit when it reached number 2 in both countries. I am also choosing that song because it is the best single released from the album. Lyrically, it is also a good song. Akon was featured on it as he was also featured for his minimal vocals and co-producing it. So better enjoy the song being shared below:

Gwen Stefani- Love. Angel. Music. Baby.: Top 10 Singles in UK and US / Memorable Chorus of a Song

Gwen Stefani- Love. Angel. Music. Baby.
United States- Gwen Stefani’s first effort was a success in United States too. Her album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” has been a successful record for reaching 4x platinum mark awarded by RIAA. The album had six official singles in the country, but see what are those top 10 hits:
Rich Girl- #7
Hollaback Girl- #1
Gwen Stefani got two from her six singles to reach the top 10. She even got a number 1 hit with “Hollaback Girl” and number 7 with reggae infused “Rich Girl”. Despite only scoring two top 10 hits, she still achieved success from the singles “What You Waiting For?” at number 47, “Cool” at number 13, “Luxurious” at number 21, and “Crash” at number 49.

United Kingdom- Gwen Stefani was also successful with her debut solo “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” in United Kingdom for going 3x platinum as certified by BPI. The album released five singles with three of them going to top 10 as listed below:
What You Waiting For?- #4
Rich Girl- #4
Hollaback Girl- #8
Three singles off “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” were top 10 hits. Two songs reached number 4 with “What You Waiting For?” and followed by “Rich Girl”. The hip-hop track “Hollaback Girl” hit number 8.

The songs I had chosen to share was “Rich Girl” despite the negative reviews. Views on the song varies and I sensed something positive on it. Also, “Hollaback Girl” is somewhat non-sense for me, though I think it is the catchiest. Check that hit song below:

Rich Girl
All the riches baby, won’t mean anything
All the riches baby, bring what your love can bring
All the riches baby, won’t mean anything
Don’t need no other baby
Your lovin’ is better than gold and I know
If I was rich girl (na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na nah)
See, I’d have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl
No man could test me, impress me, my cash flow would never ever end
Cause I’d have all the money in the world, if I was a wealthy girl

“4 in the Morning” has been the third single from “The Sweet Escape”. The single is a synthpop ballad and was structured well. It may have charted worldwide but failed to become a magnificent hit. It failed to come up the upper half of Hot 100, but reached top 30 in United Kingdom.

Memorable Lines in Songs: Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani gained solo success after being the vocalist of successful band, No Doubt. Her songs were known about expressing herself, love songs and even about life, scored successes in music charts.

What Ya Waiting For?
” Naturally I’m worried if I do it alone
Who really cares ’cause it’s your life”
Knowing Gwen as the vocalist of No Doubt, she’s telling what she feel and that she’s worried as she will be doing it alone or going solo and not as lead singer of No Doubt which she used to.

Rich Girl
” All the riches baby, won’t mean anything
All the riches baby, bring what your love can bring”
The girl is rich but it is nothing for her as long she got the she love who is even better than any riches for her.

Hollaback Girl
” People hear you talking like that, getting everybody fired up”
She is hearing negative things about her which probably includes the media. But she don’t mind what they say and just do her stuff.

” It’s good to see you now with someone else
And it’s such a miracle that you and me are still good friends”
I think this song is for her ex and bandmate Tony Kanal as she said that they are still good friends even he already has hiw own partner, and Gwen is also with someone she love, which is Gavin Rossdale.

” Working so hard every night and day
And now we get the pay back”
It’s about working so hard and after the hard work, you get what you deserve and live luxuriously.

The Sweet Escape
” I must apologize for acting stank & treating you this way
Cause I’ve been acting like sour milk all on the floor”
The girl is apologize for acting badly and trying to make a change for the two of them.

4 in the Morning
” I give you everything that I am
I’m handin’ over everything that I’ve got”
The girl loves the guy so much but the guy seems his love is cooling off. The girl was so hurt because she gave her everything.

Used to Love You
” Never thought this would happen
Gonna let it sink in, you’re gone”
The girl may be the wife and she couldn’t believe that everything is turning dysfunctional and that she and her husband has separated.

Setting My Playlist

I am a big fan of music and I make my playlist every time. Now I am setting up my playlist and picking up songs to include in my current playlist. I had listed at least twelve songs for my playlist and it would be good now that the 2016 is about to start. Here are the new songs I included in my playlist:

Adele- When We Are Young
I love this song for its conveying melody and Adele’s vocals is superb. Also, I can feel her the hearts coming from her heart.

Justin Bieber- Love Yourself
I used to listen to this already but not yet on my list. It is a nice acoustic ballad.

Coldplay- Everglow
For me, it is the best cut from their new album and I just included it on my playlist.

Alessia Cara- Here
This young singer is promising. I like her voice, musicality and how she shun from the way people loves to live like based on this song’s lyrics.

Drake- Hotline Bling
I just added it on my playlist as it is a good midtempo jam. Never mind Drake’s dance moves though.

One Direction- History
It was not yet released but I think it is one of the best tracks from “Made in the A.M.”

Fall Out Boy- Centuries
I know it is quite an old song but I just learned to like it and now on my list.

Charlie Puth- One Call Away
This beautiful ballad was recently performed by Charlie in Miss Universe. It was a beautiful ballad that’s why included it here.

Gwen Stefani- Used to Love You
I love the synth and the whole sound as it brings some breeze while listening to it.

Justin Bieber- I’ll Show You
I am loving synths in music and it is in this song. Also, this song reminds me of Owl City.

Fetty Wap- 679
I love how rhythmic Fetty Wap is and it is in this song so I listed it here.

Dawin- Dessert
The song is very catchy and will surely make you move when listening to it.

Top 7 Female Band vocalist

It is rare to see female leading a band with male members. Oftentimes, they even made their band more successful since the camera is within them mostly than their bandmates playing the instruments. I listed some of these band vocalist who led their bands successfully.

Shirley Manson- From second half of 1990s, the band Garbage was led by this girl named Shirley who was also considered one of the top fashion icons as shown in some MTV shows. The band becane successful too scoring hits like “Milk”, “I Think I’m Paranoid, etc. They even sang the James Band hit “The World is Not Enough”. The secret to the band’s success? Of course it’s Shirley Manson.

Selena Gomez- Many of you might think she’s an artist of her own, but yes, she is now. Before? No. As we often hear ‘Selena Gomez and The Scene”‘, it’sa band which was led by Selena. It was a testament of Selena’s leadership as the band scored multiple top 10 albums and top 40 hits.

Dolores O’ Riordan- This lady have such a beautiful and rare voice. Among all the ladies in this list, she has the most beautiful voice for me. Well, she successfully led the band during the 1990s and created beautiful hit songs such as “Linger”, “Zombie” and a lot more. Their album “No Need to Argue” is among the best selling albums during the first half of 1990s. Thanks to Dolores who’s very much credited for their success.

Gwen Stefani- Apart from successful solo career, Gwen led No Doubt successfully as well. Their album “Tragic Kingdom” is among the biggest sellers for 1997, while big comeback came in 2002 after a moderate success of “Return of the Saturn”. The band never broke up, just in state of hiatus and she remained the band’s vocalist.

Florence Welch- One of the acclaimed bands recently, Florence & the Machine led by Florence Welch sold millions of albums. My favorite song from this band is “Dog Days are Over”. Undeniably, Florence have a beautiful voice which led the band’s success.

Hailey Williams- From the hard-rocking of “Misery Business” to a light and fun sound of “Ain’t it Fun”, the band scored many hit songs and hot selling albums. Hailey was also featured in songs by B.O.B. with “Airplanes” which was big hit, and Zedd. Well, she can make it as solo artist, yet she loves her band.

Amy Lee- Whether rock or ballad, her voice is very haunting that it was like taking you to the Gothic life. I wonder where she is now, but hoping for a new album of Evanescence that will take you back to their “Fallen” era.

Popular Songs About Money

Many believes money can give you happiness while others don’t believe it. Some music artists had created such songs whether craving for money or it’s not what makes them money. Hereare some of the popular songs that talks about money.

The Beatles- Can’t Buy Me Love
The fab four went out with this song emphasizing that money can’t buy love. The song written by Paul McCartney, knows the real interpretation of the song.

ABBA- Money, Money, Money
ABBA released this song and became successful worldwide particularly in Europe. The song talks about a woman working so harf but she feels it’s not enough and even aimed to marry a wealthy man.

Released posthumously, this song was B.I.G.’s second biggest hit in the US. Biggie just emphasized that if he has more money, he has more problems.

Jennifer Lopez- Love Don’t Cost a Thing
J.Lo does want is love and it has no price. It eventually went to number one in many countries and top ten in some places.

Gwen Stefani ft. Eve- Rich Girl
Gwen goes out with this song that can be on par with “Material Girl”. This song was a top ten hit globally.

Stacie Orrico- More to Life
The song may not be exactly about money, rather about a high social status one is aiming and that there’s more important in life. The song reached top 40 in US and top 10 in UK but more successful in Asia.

Destiny’s Child- Bills, Bills, Bills
The girls just want their guy to pay their bills. It seems they wanted a wealthy man. If not then everything’s through for them. The song propelled to become the girls’ first US chart-topper.

Looking for the right girl? Make sure she’s not a gold digger. This became a huge number 1 hit for Kanye.

Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars- Billionaire
As everybody wanted to be rich, some people wanted to be a billionaire not just a millionaire through this collaboration from Travie and Mars. The song became multi-platinum after reaching top 10 in several territories.

Hot “Baby” Songs during the last 20 Years

I heard a lot of songs during the last 20 years with the word “baby”. Those songs were not literally about an infant, rather, used to be a term of endearment to one’s partner. I created a list of “Baby” songs during the last 20 years, check below:

Mariah Carey- Always Be My Baby
Taken from the blockbuster album “Daydream”, this song is a like yoi are taking in a fresh air from Mariah, after the high vocal range along with Boyz II Men with “One Sweet Day”. This pop/R&B song became MC’s 11th chart-topper in her homeland, US. American Idol winner David Cook released his own version of it and was a hit in the Philippines.

Justin Bieber- Baby
This catchy song was Justin’s biggest hit to date despite peaking in lower position than his recent hit songs. It is even among the most viewed video ever in YouTube history. I may not be a Bieber fan but I agree that this song is catchy.

Beyonce / Sean Paul- Baby Boy
During Sean Paul’s success with “Get Busy”, Beyonce invited Sean in this sexual song “Baby Boy”. It became Bey’s second number 1 hit, and its Arabic sound influenced other R&B songs to incorporate the sound.

Gwen Stefani- Baby Don’t Lie
Supposedly her comeback after joining the panel of coaches on The Voice, this song hit the top 50. Her supposed new album is still in the works after about a year when this song was out. This time, the song is a cleaner one after the profanity-infused hit “Hollaback Girl”.

Christina Aguilera- Come on Over Baby (All I Want is You)
Initially, the word “baby” is not included in the title of the song until the revised the song and added “baby”. The song, though, is quite sexual despite knowing Christina as a teen star at that time.

No Doubt- Hey Baby
After the rock and ska sound incorporated in their previous works, the group went dancehall and reggae with this huge comeback hit from them. During this song’s success, another song with the same title was also heard on the radio.

Britney Spears- …Baby One More Time
Everybody sang “oh, baby, baby” during the peak of this song. It was Britney’s song that entered her to superstardom. It was listed as one of the most iconic pop songs and videos. Among those songs in this list, this song is the most successful “baby” songs.

Plies ft. Ne-Yo- Bust it Baby
Going hip-hop this time, this one is the only hit of Plies to hit the top 10. Thanks to the catchy chorus sang by Ne-Yo.

Jennifer Lopez- Baby I Love You
Created during the time Jennife Lopez is so much in love with Ben Affleck, it is clear that her “baby” here is Ben. The song was successful in Europe, particularly in UK.

Artists’ Comeback Trial

There were a number of successful artists attempted to make a comeback but it was a struggle to release new records. Competition is the major reason why these artists have a difficult time to come up with new projects. Since digital downloads and streaming is the trend in music nowadays, releasing digital singles without clear decision whether to put a new album. Eventually, few artists released an album. However, most of these artists’ attempt did not succeed.

Here are some of the artists who made a trial and released an album:

Mariah Carey

Despite being one of the biggest female artists ever, making a comeback for Mariah hasn’t been easy. The “Glitter” era was one of her disappointing moment which she made comeback for “Charmbracelet”  which also met with negative response from critics and fans. Nevertheless, she made a comeback in 2005 which she regained her superstar status. Two albums followed with underwhelming sales. Then recently, she tried releasing a single called “Triumphant” which eventually did not appear in her album. Her album was also postponed several times and until its released, it flopped.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez had a flop album called “Brave” in 2007. She is supposed to make a comeback but was shelved. She signed  to other record label and had successful comeback which was was heightened by the success of worldwide hit “On the Floor”. After her compilation album, she released “Live it Up ” which is intended for a new album. The single did not appear in the album (A.K.A.) which also flopped in sales.

The following were the artists who release singles, but without proper album:

She became huge when she took a brief break from Black Eyed Peas and released her multi-platinum seller “The Dutchess” and 5 multi-million selling singles. After huge comeback with Black Eyed Peas, she took a break from the limelight. Last year, she decided to release a new single called “L.A. Love (La, La) with anticipation from fans with a new album. The album was successful as it entered the Billboard top 20 and UK top 5, but did not reach the success of her past singles. An album was not released yet.

Gwen Stefani

Shortly after Fergie’s single release, Gwen Stefani also released her comeback single, the ska/ reggae infused “Baby Don’t Lie”. The song had a strong start but quickly dropped off the charts. She said she is still working for the new album but didn’t confirm if “Baby…” will be in it. Gwen had recently enjoyed her stint in The Voice.

Jonas Brothers

The siblings’ fans waited for a proper release of their album which was preceded by their single “Pom Poms”. In the end, the album was shelved and pursued solo projects. Its member Nick Jonas is currently enjoying his solo success.
