Eminem- Encore: Top 10 and Top 40 Singles in US and UK

Eminem- Encore
United States- Eminem had scored three number 1 albums already such as “The Marshall Mathers LP”, “The Eminem Show” and “Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile”, then his album “Encore” was released. The album has proven success again when it went to number 1 and gained 5x platinum from RIAA, but lower than his two previous albums. Singles were released and look what entered the top 10:
Just Lose It- #6
Unlike the previous album, “Encore” only scored one top 10 hit which was “Just Lose It” at number 6. But he had top 40 hits which were listed below:
Encore (with 50 Cent and Dr. Dre)- #25
Like Toy Soldiers- #34
Mockingbird- #11
Eminem had exactly another three singles which reached the top 40. It seemed his second biggest hit in the country has been “Mockingbird” for reaching number 11.

United Kingdom- Eminem attained success again in United Kingdom with “Encore” album. It reached the top spot again and awarded with 4x platinum by BPI. He even had scored numerous top 10 hits there as listed down below:
Just Lose It- #1
Like Toy Soldiers- #1
Mockingbird- #4
Ass Like That- #4
Eminem never failed to reach the top 10 as four official singles went to the top 10 and top 5. He scored his fifth and sixth number 1 hits of his career with “Just Lose It” and “Like Toy Soldiers”, both were awarded by BPI with Silver Record. His two singles which both peaked at number 4 were “Mockingbird” and “Ass Like That”. “Encore” track was not released but peaked outside the top 100.

The biggest hit from the album “Encore” was obviously “Just Lose It” for reaching the top 10 in US and number 1 in UK. However, I am sharing “Mockingbird” because it shows how much Eminem love his daughter, and the soft spot of him. It shows how genuine he is, and how intimate he is for his daughter.

Eminem- The Eminem Show / Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile: Top 10 and Top 40 Singles in US and UK

Eminem- The Eminem Show and Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile
United States- Due to the huge success of his album “The Marshall Mathers LP”, Eminem had came up to release his follow-up release which the album was “The Eminem Show” and still at its peak, a soundtrack from his movie was also released which was “Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile”. Both albums did great as “The Eminem Show” was awarded with 10x platinum, while “Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile” had gone 4x platinum. Both records even scored hit singles and the top 10 hits were listed below:
Without Me- #2
Cleaning Out My Closet- #4
Lose Yourself- #1
It shows that Eminem’ singles this time did better than the preceding album “The Marshall Mathers LP”. Three singles made it to the top 10 which was initiated by “Without Me” at number 2, “Cleaning Out My Closet” at number 4, and the number 1 hit “Lose Yourself”. The latter was awarded 5x platinum due to outstanding sales by RIAA. The album also scored top 40 hits below listed:
Superman- #15
Sing for the Moment- #14

United Kingdom- Eminem continued his success in United Kingdom with the album “The Eminem Show” for achieving 7x platinum status by BPI, and the soundtrack “Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile” which was awarded 2x platinum. Singles were successful too reaching top 10 with these songs:
Without Me- #1
Cleaning Out My Closet- #4
Lose Yourself- #1
Sing for the Moment- #6
Business- #6
Five singles has been big hits in UK from the two albums. The number 1 hits were two, first with “Without Me” which was certified platinum, and the “8 Mile” theme “Lose Yourself”, a 2x platinum single. Other big hits were “Cleaning Out My Closet” at number 4, and both number 6 hits “Sing for the Moment” and “Business”. No singles released peaked outside the top 10 from the two albums.

The song I would be sharing was the US number 2 and UK number 1 hit “Without Me” because of the humor it brought, and being the lead single of “The Eminem Show” album.

Eminem- The Marshall Matters LP: Top 10 and 40 Singles in US and UK

Eminem- The Marshall Mathers LP
United States- Eminem may had achieved success over his debut album “The Slim Shady LP”, but he was more successful with his album “The Marshall Mathers LP”. It even reached number 1 after a huge first week sales being reported by Nielsen Soundscan with 1.7 million, something rarely achieved by any artist. The album was even a diamond awardee by RIAA because of 10x platinum achievement. The album also released singles which became hits, and the one listed below made it to top 10:
The Real Slim Shady- #4
Three singles were released and despite being a huge album, it scored only one top 10 hit with “The Real Slim Shady” when it reached number 4. He had no other top 40 hits as well but chartdd outside the top 50 with “The Way I Am” and the Dido collab “Stan”.

United Kingdom- Eminem was very successful with this album in United Kingdom too. It was a chart-topper and sales were enormous. According to BPI, it achieved the saled which certified him with 8x platinum. Singles were also big hits from the album. He achieved top 10 hits through these songs below:
The Real Slim Shady- #1
The Way I Am- #8
Stan- #1
It shows how successful Eminem’s singles in the country were. He got two singles to reach number 1 first with “The Real Slim Shady” and followed by the third single “Stan” which samples lyrics from the song of the featured artist Dido. Both songs were even awarded with Platinum by BPI. He also hit the top 10 with “The Way I Am” when it took the 8th spot. Three singles were only released from the album and no song peaked outside the top 10 but within the top 40.

The song I will be sharing was “The Real Slim Shady”. It contains disses towards other artists. It was the biggest hit from him through the “The Marshall Mathers LP” album in the US as it reached the top 5, while a number 1 hit song in UK.

Eminem- The Slim Shady LP: Top 10 and 40 Singles in US and UK

Eminem-The Slim Shady LP
United States- Eminem already had records released before this LP but this one can be considered as his breakthrough album. It was a hit number 2 album and was even gifted with certification of 5x platinum by RIAA. The words “Slim Shady” was his alter ego that’s why it was the title of his album. There were about three singles released from this album, however, nothing ever reached the top 10. It has scored a top 40 hit though which was listed below:
My Name Is- #36
Only one single even charted from the album as songs such as “Role Model” and “Guilty Conscience” with another rapper Dr. Dre. His songs also charted on Billboard’s component charts.

United Kingdom- Eminem certainly achieved success from the album “The Slim Shady LP”. Aside from hitting the top 10 spot, it was even a big seller as it was awarded by BPI with 3x platinum. Three songs were also released and those songs were listed below:
My Name Is- #2
Guilty Conscience (with Dr. Dre)- #5
Eminem had two hit songs from “The Slim Shady LP”. Success waa achieved when “My Name Is” peaked at number 2. His collaboration with fellow rapper and friend Dr. Dre “Guilty Conscience” was a top 5 hit when it took the fifth spot. Nevertheless, those were the only songs which made it to the charts. “Role Model” failed to chart, perhaps it was unreleased or ineligible to enter the chart.

The biggest hit by Eminem from the album was “My Name Is”. It was the only song from the album to chart in United States, and the highest peaking song in United Kingdom. Also, it was the most known song by Eminem from the album “The Slim Shady LP”. I will be sharing the song below to enjoy and hoping you will enjoy it, just in case you are not familiar of the song.

Battle of Same Song Titles: No Doubt vs Maroon 5 / Eminem vs Ingrid Michaelson

In these battles, the first one is like not just the battle of same song titles rather a battle of two bands. While other one was from a rapper and a folk pop singer. Check them below:

No Doubt vs Maroon 5
“Sunday Morning”
No Doubt just reached the height of their career then in mainstream music world through “Don’t Speak” and “Tragic Kingdom” album. This song is one of the succeeding singles of the LP and had limited success failing to reach the top 40. It is about the breakup of Gwen to her bandmate and then boyfriend Tony Kanal.

This is the last official single off Maroon 5’s first album “Songs About Jane”. It was less successful than preceeding releases but it charted within top 40 in many countries it charted. It became successful here in the Philippines. The song has undertones in its lyrics.

Verdict:
No Doubt- Sunday Morning
Melody and Lyrics- 3.0 / Success- 2.25 = 5.25

Maroon 5- Sunday Morning
Melody and Lyrics-3.25 / Success- 2.75= 6.0

Winner: With few points, Maroon 5 still won against No Doubt in this “Sunday Morning” battle.

Eminem vs Ingrid Michaelson
“The Way I Am”

This song was released at the height of Eminem in controversy due to his lyrics in his songs for dissing and slamming other personalities. The song tells about him and story, thus, should be understood. It was a top ten hit in some territories then, but moderately successful in the US.

This is one of the hits of Ingrid Michaelson which hit the US top 40. Her sound wasn’t too mainstream which is folk pop and wasn’t released in many countries. But the song sounds too sweet along with Ingrid’s beautiful and simple voice.

Verdict:
Eminem- The Way I Am
Melody and Lyrics- 3.25 / Success- 3.25= 6.5

Ingrid Michaelson- The Way I Am
Melody and Lyrics- 3.75 / Succsss- 2.25= 6.0

Winner: Eminem won “The Way I Am” battle with a small gap.

Trends and Cliches in Mainstream Music (2000-2004)

Music is still very much alive from 2000-2004, however, album sales was seen on its decline. This was due to the rise of digital music and piracy. Still, we saw the trends in music with the rise of new artists, as well as trends in genres.

First-week million sales
It has been a phenomenon in music to sell one million copies in just one week. The record breaker for a long time was set on first quarter of 2000 when NSYNC broke sales with 2.4 million US sales. That same year, Eminem broke more than 1.7 million for “Marshall Mathers LP, Britney Spears second LP “Oops… I Did It Again” with more than 1.3 million and Limp Bizkit’s “Chocolate Starfish and Hotdog Flavored Water” with more than 1 million. Several artists this era reached a million in first week like Usher, Norah Jones and Backstreet Boys (had two albums with Millenium from 1999). NSYNC held the second place for a long time to with “Celebrity” with 1.8 million plus, and another album from Eminem.

Boybands going hiatus
Boybands enjoyed their peak during 1995-1999. They started the new millenium with a bang, but as 2002 started, boybands such as Backstreet Boys and NSYNC took hiatus. European boybands continued though like Westlife and Blue.

Going solo
As boybands and girlbands go hiatus, many members of those groups went solo. NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake achieved success with his debut. Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys though had limited success. While Beyonce of Destiny’s Child had her superstardom began in 2004.

Young female stars going sexy
We also saw the young female stars going sexier this era. Britney Spears left her role model image as she has gone sexy in her third album. Christina Aguilera is very notable though as she has shown her dirtiest image in 2002 with her video “Dirrty” and her breakout album “Stripped”.

Young female pop/rock stars
In 2002, Avril Lavigne rocked the charts with her debut album “Let Go”. Despite Michelle Branch first came out, she was not credited for the rise of pop/rock music. Vanessa Carlton had platinum success with her debut album, while Jennifer Love Hewitt released a pop/rock album. We also saw Hillary Duff and Ashley Simpson followed the pop/rock genre.

Rock bands
Rock has become a very popular genre in 2000 with the success of Limp Bizkit. Linkin Park became victorious too who scored the biggest selling rock album of the decade with “Hybrid Theory” and a huge second album “Meteora”. Nickelback, Coldplay and Creed became successful this era too.

R&B music
R&B music has been on its peak when year 2000 begun. It was led by Destiny’s Child, Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti, Beyonce and others. Even pop stars incorporated R&B in their music.

Hip-hop music
Hip-hop music scene is very much alive this era too. We saw the success of Eminem, Nelly and Ja Rule, as well as the introductory of Chingy, 50 Cent and others.

Remixes
Remixes has been popular too this era. It started when Jennifer Lopez topped the charts with “I’m Real” which led to the release of her remix album. The album set record when it went to number one. Other successful remix albums were from P. Diddy and Linkin Park.
