Album’s Singles Review: Black Eyed Peas “Elephunk”

After years, Black Eyed Peas finally reached their breakthrough through this album. They may had already released 2 album, before “Elephunk”, this album became their first ever to achieve success worldwide. It is also their first album with Fergie as part of Black Eyed Peas. The album was consisted of R&B and hip-hop tunes. It may had only peaked at number 14 in Billboard 200 but it went multiplatinum.

Where is the Love? (ft. Justin Timberlake)
“Where is the Love?” is the song that brought Black Eyed Peas to superstardom. The song has a relevant message since love has cooled off for some people due to the chaos, wars, and problems the humankind is facing because of people’s wrongdoings. It featured Justin Timberlake who sang the chorus but was not credited. The song became a worldwide hit reaching number one in majority of the countries it charted. In United States, it peaked at number 8.

Shut Up
“Shut Up” was released as the second single for Black Eyed Peas’ breakthrough album. The song has been huge elsewhere and was almost as successful as “Where’s the Love?” as it reached number 1 worldwide but did not managed to chart in America. The song is catchy, but not as catchy as its debut single.

“Hey Mama” is a hip-hop song with dancehall influences, a genre which is very popular at the time through Sean Paul. The song gave Black Eyed Peas another hit as it reached the top 10 in many countries worldwide, while it reached the top 30 in United States.

“Let’s Get Started” was released as the final official single worldwide. The song was originally titled “Let’s Get Retarded” and was re-titled. The hip-hop song may had reached number 21 in Billboard Hot 100, but was a multi-platinum there.
