Dido- Life for Rent: Top 10 Singles in US and UK / Memorable Chorus of a Song

Dido- Life for Rent
United States- Dido again released her second album “Life for Rent” in the US. The album peaked higher at number 2 and was certified by RIAA with 2x platinum. The album released a number of singles, nevertheless, the singles never reached the top 10. She only had one single from the album to chart at the Hot 100. That song was “White Flag” which peaked at number 18, also a hit in a number of component charts.

United Kingdom- Dido’s second album was a record breaker in United Kingdom for being one of the fastest selling albums there. Aside from being a chart-topping album, it was even awarded by BPI with 9x platinum. The album had hit singles too. Check those songs below:
White Flag- #2
Life for Rent- #8
Clearly, Dido managed two singles to reach the top 10. First waz the carrier single “White Flag” for reaching the second spot. It became her biggest hit ever in the country which was awarded with Gold Record. Her second single from the record “Life for Rent” had went to number 8. She had two other singles which charted. The first one was “Don’t Leave Home” which sat at number 25, and it was followed by “Sand in My Shoes” at number 29.

Dido’s biggest hit in the United States has been “White Flag” which was the only single from the album thay charted. In Unite Kingdom, that song was also her biggest hit song for peaking at 2nd spot. That’s why I am sharing that song below. Not just it’s a big hit, rather a beautiful song too:

White FlagĀ (Chorus)
But I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be

Dido- No Angel: Top 10 Singles in US and UK / Memorable Chorus of a Song

Dido- No Angel
United States- Dido’s initial attempt to break the American market which she succeeded when her album “No Angel” was released which entered the top 5, and even awarded with 4x platinum by RIAA. The album released some singles but let’s check what made it to the top 10.
Thank You- #3
With the singles released from the album, only “Thank You” made it to chart. The song reached number 3, which is a follow up to the song “Here With Me”, a song which almost charted on Billboard charts as it only reached Bubbling Under.

United Kingdom- Dido was formerly a member of a UK band and gone solo in this album. Of course, she also achieved success from that album in her hometown, where it was a top seller with certification from BPI as 10x platinum. She charted on the singles charts with her releases. Here are those songs managing to enter the top 10:
Here With Me- #4
Thank You- #3
Dido had two top 10 hits from the album, which both reached the top 5. It started with “Here With Me” when it peaked at number 4, a good start for her. It was followed by a more successful single “Thank You” which had gone to number 3. Her song “Hunter” failed to enter the top 10 boundary for reaching number 17.

Since Dido had two official hit singles which were “Here With Me” and “Thank You”, but her biggest hit worldwide was obviously “Thank You”. It’s fame even started when sampled on Eminem’s hit “Stan”, a number 1 hit in a number of countries. So I am sharing “Thank You” and hope you do enjoy.

Thank You (Chorus)
I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you is having the best day of my life

Album’s Singles Review: Dido “No Angel”

Dido is one of the biggest act from United Kingdom during 2000’s. She had two big albums and “No Angel” gave her the initial success and was her biggest album ever. According to estimates, the albun sold over 22 million copies and her native home, UK, it has been one of the biggest sellers there. Despite being released earlier than 2000, it achievd bigger success in 2001, which was the album’s peak. The album had lots of great pop songs with electronic, pop rock, and folk sound.

Here With Me
This was the first single from “No Angel” and her angelic voice was heard. “Here With Me” is a pop song which ou can hear influence of trip hop and electronic. The song was a big hit especially in UK and other European countries.
Rate:8.5 out of 10

Don’t Think of Me
This may not be heard widely since it was released in America. The pop song ia subtle and easy to listen to. It haven’t had a wide chart success.
Rate: 7.5 out of 10

Thank You
“Thank You” is a beautiful pop song with trip hop sounds and sounds like a well polished “Here With Me” song. The song became very successful in 2001 and Dido’s biggest hit from the album. However, it was already heard earlier from the movie “Sliding Doors”, which I heard upon watching the movie. It became more familiar when used in Eminem’s hit “Stan”
Rate: 8.75 out of 10

“Hunter” served as the third most successful song from the album. I can say it is as good as “Here With Me” with its beautiful pop sound and melody, with Dido’s soft voice. It had moderate chart success anywhere.
Rate: 8.5 out of 10

All You Want
The song was the final single from “No Angel”. It is a good pop song, but did not reaceive a wide release and was just limited.

Underrated Artists Who Had Big Hits

There are so many singers nowadays and scoring a hit song or album is already a huge accomplishment for them. Many of those singers really did well but are just underrated. After accomplishing a hit song/s or album/s, succeeding releases underperformed. It may be promotional thing that they declined in sales but those artists really need more attention than what they received.

Nelly Furtado
Nelly won a Grammy and nominated several times on the awards show during her debut year. Her album even went multi-platinum and platinum in several countries. Her sophomore album may have been less successful but redeemed success with third LP “Loose” which became very successful globally and her most successful to date. A Spanish album succeeded then an underperforming album which was almost unheard.

Dido was one of the biggest UK artists in 2000s after breaking records in sales in her own country, she also sold extremely well in other countries which includes US through her first two albums “No Angel” and “Life for Rent” and the hit single “Thank You”. Her two following albums failed to match its predecessors.

Jason Mraz
Jason’s debut “Waiting for My Rocket to Come” was platinum and scored a top 40 hit with “The Remedy”. But his big break came through the sleeper hit “I’m Yours” and remained stationary in the charts for more than a year. His courageous song “I Won’t Give Up” hit the top ten in a number of territories but his following singles and album were less successful.

Norah Jones
Norah Jones is a big Grammy winner during her debut year which contributed to the success of her first album “Come Away With Me”, which according to estimates had sold at about 26 million copies. “Feels Like Home” is a million-seller on its debut week but her succeeding LPs sold below her first two LPs.
