Top 8 Disney Songs Since the 1990s

At least many of us had watched any Disney movie, and of course, we heard some of their theme songs. Whenever we hear Disney songs, we can name which movie that song was taken. Since I am a 1990s kid, I created this list of top Disney themes heard since 1990s.

8. Circle of Life (performed by Elton John for The Lion King)

The soundtrack album was made possible through Elton John while some of musical scores were done by Hans Zimmerman. This song’s theatrical sound and epic sounding melody were the reasons why I included the song in this list.

7. Can You Feel the Love Tonight (performed by Eltow John for The Lion King)

Back to back from another Lion King song was this love song which was the theme song of Simba and Nala. This is also the main and carrier song of the OST.

6. For the First Time in Forever (performed by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel for Frozen)

It was sung the time when Elsa will be declared as the new queen, Princess Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) sung the most part of it. It was not an easy song to sing because of its pace on stanzas but the two artistw sung it really well.

5. Beauty and the Beast (performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson for the OST of Beauty and the Beast and Angela Lansbury in the film as Mrs. Potts)

This is one of the most memorable love songs from Disney. Celine and Peabo had a great tandem while Angela as Mrs. Potts in the film delivered it well.

4. Reflections (performed by Christina Aguilera for Mulan, Lea Salonga from the film itself)

Lea Salonga’s voice has always been perfect especially in these kind of songs. Christina’s version was released as the single which shown her vocal prowess. The song was exactly about the protagonist of the film.

3. Colors of the Wind (performed by Vanessa Williams for Pocahontas as lead single, Judy Kuhn for the film)

The song really fits the nature as Pocahontas is a Native American woman in the film. Both versions of the artists were superb.

2. A Whole New World (performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Bell for Alladin as lead single, Lea Salonga and Brad Kane for the movie)

Peabo and Regina’s version has soul in it but Brad and Lea’s voice sounds more theatrical. The song was a number one hit then.

1. Let it Go (performed by Idina Menzel for Frozen, Demi Lovato as a single)

This deserves to be the number one apart from being the biggest selling Disney single ever. Idina Menzel sang it very well with her high range. Demi’s version was more of a pop song.

Impressions of Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera on Jimmy Fallon

After watching the impressions of Adam Levine on Jimmy Fallon via YouTube, I watched the impressions of Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera. Both videos already garnered millions of views with Ariana’s episode as the latest. While Christina Aguilera’s video earned more views knowing it was shown months ago.

Ariana Grande first did Britney Spears with the song Mary Had a Little Lamb. She nailed the impression as she sang it at slow pace. What wowed me was when she imitated Christina Aguilera. I never though she can do the vocal gymnastics of Christina Aguilera, which she was known for. Her impression of Celine Dion singing The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” is a spot on even the way Celine sings live. Admittedly, I am critical of Ariana’s vocal ability. I disagree whenever she was compared to Mariah Carey, knowing MC was one of the greatest female singers when it comes to vocal abilities. She’s even mumbling whenever she sings that I couldn’t understand the words. I also disagree with people I see on TV who are all praises for her voice. The Ariana we hear in her own songs is the real Ariana but that’s not all she can do. She can do better than that. My impression on her ability has now changed.

Then I watched Christina Aguilera’s episode. I already saw her impression before and I just watched it again. Since Christina, no other female singers came up that was at the level of her vocal ability. She was considered to be at a league of singers like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion due to their high vocal range. With regards to her impression, she first sang “The Folgers Song” the Cher way. Well, it’s been very easy for Christina to do that. But the most perfect impression she did was Britney Spears with the song “This Little Piggy” with the tune of “…Baby One More Time”. She was like the real Britney Spears in a Christina Aguilera’s face and clothing. She also nailed Shakira which she sung at the last.

What I am hoping to see in the program was Britney Spears and impression Ariana and Christina. If she did it, surely gain more fans and perception about her ability will change.

Recap: Your Face Sounds Familiar 2, September 19, 2015 Episode

It’s Saturday night and I have my habit of watching my favorite local TV show at the moment. It is “Your Face Sounds Familiar 2”. Last week, I made a recap of the episodes from Saturday to Sunday. The winner for the week ended for Eric Nicolas who copied Willie Revillame. We will see this week if he will nail his performance and stay on top.

This week’s episodes will be interesting once again as 8 of the celebrities will be impersonating 8 icons either local or international artists.

The show begun with last season’s winner (and now a regular in the show) Melai Cantiveros impersonating Manny Pacquiao’s mom, Dionisia Pacquiao. Melai did so well even without a performance. She did Dionisia’s signature, her way of singing Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” (Reking Bul as pronounced). As usual, she made the audience laugh as she really nailed it.

The first performer for the night was Rocker Kean Cipriano who impersonated Randy Santiago. From the looks to movements and even his voice, he performed it well. I can’t even see Kean in that performance.

Cosplayer Myrtle Sarosa connected to the song after her breakup when she sang and impersonated Jessa Zaragosa. The look didn’t get it but her voice is great. Even Jessa Zaragosa herself is in the audience and approved Myrtle’s performance.

Actress Denise Laurel did Christina Aguilera through the song Lady Marmalade (actually sang with Pink, Lil Kim and Mya). The song was difficult to sing knowing the range of Christina’s voice but Denise tried and she sang it well despite not hitting the highest note. The way Christina moves her fingers and her look was well-copied. However, Christina’s flirt was lacking in her performance.

Among the vocals, Michael Pangilinan is on the spot. The looks may not be perfect but his voice or the way he sang it will take him to top 5 this week.

The last performer was last week’s winner Eric Nicolas who this time, impersonated Louis Armstrong with the iconic, timeless and beautiful song “What a Wonderful World”. He did well however, the way it was sang was more of a growling. The looks was good though.

Among all the 5 performances tonight, I think the best was Kean Cipriano. The competition is not yet over since 3 other artists will perform tomorrow. The winner this week will also be picked and announced tomorrow.

Your Face Sounds Familiar 2 airs on Sunday and Saturday on ABS-CBN 2.

The Powerful Voice of Sia

Last night while watching a TV show, there’s this singer who performed one of 2014’s biggest hits, “Chandelier” from the singer and songwriter Sia. The song was considered as the artist’s breakthrough. If you will ask common people if they already heard Sia before, only few or even none may answer “Yes”. But now, everybody knows the song, some people will even say it is difficult to sing.

Well, Sia has a unique voice and nobody can sing like her. When I first heard “Chandelier”, there’s a little touch of Rihanna but hers is more unique and has higher range. It’s a perfect song she wrote for herself and a good idea not to give to other artists. You heard it right, she had written to other artists and they were superstars. Britney Spears’ “Perfume” was written by her and even did background vocals. While another pop star Christina Aguilera collaborated with her in a number of songs for her (underrated and underwhelming?) album “Bionic”. And who will forget the worldwide hit “Diamonds” , the last number 1 hit from Rihanna? Recently, you heard her composition/s in Beyonce’s huge self titled album and from the movie “Pitch Perfect 2”. It is a testament of her huge talent that other artists adore her.

Back then, Sia already released records nevertheless, reception from the public was lukewarm. Her first music video and song that I heard and saw was “Clap Your Hands”. It’s catchy but a song that lacks force to elevate her song to the masses. Then I heard her voice over David Guetta song “Titanium” and Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones”. She co-wrote the songs and served as doorway to international stardom.

After “Chandelier”, her controversial song (because of its music video) “Elastic Heart” proved she can’t be a one-hit wonder (as solo) when it peaked inside the top 20 globally. It’s a good song too and garnered hundreds of millions of hits in YouTube.

What’s next from Sia? Looking forward to hear more from her and show everyone the power of her voice.
