Battle of Same Song Title: Dream vs Demi Lovato / Miley Cyrus vs Wiz Khalifa

Here are the battle between a girl group and a young female artist, then a young female artist against a rapper with a male singer:

Dream vs Demi Lovato
“This Is Me”

Dream is a successful girl group in the US in 2001. This song was like an introductory of them after the first single “He Loves Me Not”. The single failed to match or even come close to the success of their first single. It only charted in the US where it peaked inside the top ten of Billboard Hot 100.

Demi Lovato sang this song along with Jonas Brothers member Joe Jonas. The song was part of the Disney TV movie “Camp Rock” which achieved success next to “High School Musical” then. The song went to top 10 in the US and has charted in some countries globally.

Verdict:
Dream- This is Me
Melody and Lyrics- 3.25 / Success- 1.75= 5.0

Demi Lovato- This is Me
Melody and Lyrics- 3.25 / Success- 2.75= 6.0

Winner: It’s Demi Lovato who won the battle for “This Is Me” song with one point gap against Dream.

Miley Cyrus vs Wiz Khalifa
“See You Again”

During the peak of Hannah Montana’s success, this song was released for the second soundtrack of the TV show. The song became the second biggest Hannah Montana hit next to “The Climb” as it it peaked at the 10th spot in the US charts. It also charted well in other countries.

Wiz Khalifa along with young singer Charlie Puth has co-wrote this beautiful song as a tribute to Paul Walker for the movie “Furious 7”. The first time I heard the song, it gave me goosebumps. It went to number one worldwide and was next to “Uptown Funk” as the biggest song of 2015.

Verdict:
Miley Cyrus- See You Again
Melody and Lyrics- 2.75 / Success- 3= 5.75

Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth- See You Again
Melody and Lyrics- 4.5 / Success- 4.75 = 9.25

Winner: It is clear as the sky that Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth won against Miley Cyrus for the “See You Again” battle.

Country Albums / Breakthrough Albums to Listen To

I am vocal before that I am not a country music fan. But I began to appreciate them and heard some great records. Here are the country albums that I listed and recommend them:

5. Thomas Rhett- Tangled Up
Thomas Rhett had some success over “It Goes Like This” LP but achieved bigger success with “Tangled Up”. I love the sounds of thsi record with some disco and country fusion on it.

4. Luke Bryan- Kill the Lights
Luke Bryan can ne said as the most successful male country singer of the recent years for his number one albums and hit country singles. His current album “Kill the Lights” gives you a nice eminiscence on a countryside.

3. Carrie Underwood- Storyteller
Carrie Underwood can be considered as one of the country music queens. She had successful country albums and now came to her fifth hit album “Storyteller”. It is a country album that lets country music fans to pay attention to.

2. Sam Hunt- Montevallo
Sam Hunt is one of the hottest country stars today. However, upon seeing comments online, he was criticized that he’s not really country and sounds more pop and R&B. But I think the country sound still dominated his music which still fits in the category. “Montevallo” sounds like a modernized country with elements of electronic.

1. Chris Stapleton- Traveller
This is an amazing debut country album from Chris Stapleton. You can feel the solemnity, the grief of a loss, and sounds like taking pyu to a journey. This album is highly recommended by country listeners.

Aside from country albums, I also recommend these albums currently making a breakthrough:
3. Twenty One Pilots- Blurryface
This is actually there fourth LP but their breaking through record. The album is too adventurous to listen to.

2. Charlie Puth- Nine Track Mind
This may had received postive reviews, but if you want some simple tunes, this record is good for you.

1. Alessia Cara- Know-It-All
One of the artists today, the young singer came out with good soulful sound in this record.

Songs You Can Often Hear in Malls

When you are in a mall, you can hear loud music being played. Without music, shopping experience would be boring. I don’t mean the surroundings would be silent, rather, all you can hear is the noice from people chattering which is irritating to the ears. With music, it can neutralize the annoying noise and delightful sounds. While going to different malls, I often hear almost the same music so I made a lists of songs that I often hear.

Sia- Chandelier
This song is always played everywhere. You can even hear employees singing the song.

Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor- Marvin Gaye
I even hear this song sang by a child while in a mall. I was like, do you know what the song means?

Selena Gomez- Hands to Myself
I rarely hear her great song “Same Old Love ” in malls. But this new song by Selena Gomez was already played in a mall.

Justin Bieber- Love Yourself
This song by Justin Bieber is becoming overplayed. Even cover versions were even played is malls.

Charlie Puth- One Call Away
Charlie Puth seems becoming a favorite in malls. Aside from “Marvin Gaye”, this sing is becoming overplayed as well.

Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj- Bang Bang
This song is still played often, and if airplay in malls was included in music charts, it might still be in the top 10.

Sheppard- Geronimo
To be honest, I first heard this song in the mall. Since it is catchy and the lyrics amde it easier to guess the title, I downloaded the song. Until now, it is still often played in malls.

Ed Sheeran- Thinking Out Loud
Well, this song is still overplayed in malls for more than a year ago. However, it has declined at the moment.

Meghan Trainor and John Legend- Like I Never Lose You
The ballad is lovely and often played on radio. It is also overplayed on radio.

Carly Rae Jepsen- I Really Like You
The word “really” may have been overused, but it seems employees in the mall never gets tired of it.

Trends and Cliches in Mainstream Music (Since 2010)

Since 2010, there are a lot of changes in music industry and we also witnessed how album sales went down. Though, we saw the success and record breaking success of Adele as the most successful artist in this era. Here are some of the trends and cliches in music industry since 2010:

Electronic dance music (EDM)
Electronic dance music continued to dominate all the genres. We heard successful records from David Guetta, Avicci, Calvin Harris, Zedd, and a lot more. Even most pop stars and even R&B singers sung a lot of dance music, showing how popular the genre is. Some of them were Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Usher, and a lot more.

Music crossover to pop
There were a lot of artists who changed or tried other genres which led to their notable success, though some did not succeed. Maroon 5 may already had pop hits before 2010, however, they became full time pop band with their 2012 album “Overexposed” and their recent “V”. Taylor Swift is the most successful in crossing over to pop. She gave a taste of pop tunes in her partly pop, partly country album “Red”. With her latest album “1989”, she became a fully-pledged pop star.

Formerly teen stars going sexy
There were a lot young stars before 2010 who took the “good girl, gone bad” route. Miley Cyrus became the most controversial who went naked in “Wrecking Ball”, magazine covers, parties and the raunchy performance on VMA 2013. Selena Gomez also went naked in her current album cover “Revival” and music video. Demi Lovato also went sexier on her new album “Confident”.

Million selling first week
It seems the phenomenon during first half of 2000s is happening since 2010 despite the sales are going down with albums. Taylor Swift has the most nunber of albums to reach the million threshold. Her third studip release “Speak Now” reached over 1.04 million on its first week according to Soundscan. Her fourth album “Red” sold higher with 1.21 million, while her recent and current album exceeded 1.28 million. But the recordbreaker and fastest among all was Adele’s “25”, which exceeded 3.38 million.

Soundtracks
Soundtrack albums did well since 2010. “Frozen” is the most successful which became very successful in 2014. Other successful soundtracks were “Fifty Shades of Grey”, Pitch Perfect 1 and 2, “Furious 7”, “Glee” albums, and a lot more.

Retro music
It seems retro and old music is incorporated in music of some pop stars. Meghan Trainor is known for her pop, soul and doo wop sound on her “Title” album. Charlie Puth incorporated Motown sound on his music, and the 80’s sound on Carly Rae Jepsen’s sound on her “Emotions” LP.

Surprise releases of albums
Beyonce broke record for releasing surprise album and went to number 1 with massive sales. Other artists followed suit which included Drake.
