When you’re in love with someone, it is nice to listen to love songs which you can relate to and gives smile to your face. However, not all love songs were happy. This year, there weren’t much love songs played on air and made impact on radio and even in sales. Here are the 10 love songs (happy or sad songs) for the year that did well in the charts.

This is one of the catchiest love songs this year and many will agree it is one of the best this year. The “Fifty Shades” theme went to the top 3 if not number one in majority of the charts globally.

Ed Sheeran- Thinking Out Loud
This song is still often heard in the radio. The song’s simplicity, romantic theme and Ed Sheeran’s voice made it the best love song this year. The position is random except this song which I declare as the best love song thos year.

Recap: Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 2 Finale

The ending finally has come and five celebrities are vying for the big winner this season. Tonight, the five celebrities had performed and the winner will be announced tomorrow.

Here are the performances tonight:

Sam Concepcion as Justin Bieber
“Boyfriend / Sorry”
Sam Concepcion’s last performance in this show was an impersonation of the Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber. It is a good performance though I feel he never went out of his comfort zone. Likewise, Justin has been about serenading his fans without too much iconic movements or looks. Still a good performance given that it is the finals.

Denise Laurel as Beyonce
“Love on Top / Crazy in Love”
It has been a stellar performance for Denise imitating one of the biggest singers today, Beyonce. It was great to see as she is full of confidence. It is within her comfort zone too but she broke out in this performance.

Kean Cipriano as Ricky Martin
“Livin’ La Vida Loca”
Kean’s performance is so-so for me. It seems he is losing his voice and changed the note of some parts. The movements though was perfect. But I think Kean trying to be different didn’t succeed.

KZ Tandingan as Lady Gaga
“Born this Way”
KZ did a great performance! Her impersonation of Lady Gaga is a good choice knowing Gaga’s identity. Her dances are also superb. I think she is a good contender based on her performance.

Michael Pangilinan as Adam Levine of Maroon 5
“Sugar”
Michael did a perfect performance as Adam Levine. The sexiness and of course, the voice of Adam Levine being perfectly impersonated. The judges are right with all their comments that it is a perfect way to end the season.

With all the performances, this is my judgment in ranking:
1. Michael Pangilinan
2. KZ Tandingan
3. Denise Laurel
4. Sam Concepcion
5. Kean Cipriano

Last year, Melai Cantiveros won which I think because of her choice in impersonating Miley Cyrus. The entertainment value is there despite poor vocals. This time, I think KZ will win because of choosing Lady Gaga. She’s at my second with the ranking but knowing Lady Gaga who did a lot gimmicks and KZ performed well so I think people will vote for her to be the big winner this second season.

Tomorrow will be announced tomorrow on ABS-CBN 2 after Rated K.

Popular Band Vocalists Since 2000

There are lots of band vocalist that has the opportunity to become huge stars on their own but never turned their back to their band. It’s friendship that runs within the members that’s why these vocalists remained in their bands. Here are some of the band vocalists who debuted since 2000 who became famous.

Adam Levine (Maroon 5)
Maroon 5 had come too far after five successful albums. Numerous hit singles were heard on the radio and includes the recent “Sugar” and their biggest hit ever “Moves Like Jagger”. The biggest credit, of course, will be given to its vocalist, Adam Levine. With his talent and looks, he can possibly succeed as solo artist but he stayed. His stint as coach in The Voice (US) contributed to his succeed, as well as successful singles where he was featured like “Stereo Hearts” (Travie McCoy) and the current “Locked Away” (R. City), which both were top ten hits worldwide.

Hayley Williams (Paramore)
Paramore went onto become one of the biggest bands sincd the second half of 2000s. Hayley Williams, the band’s vocalist, can be attributed to their success. She was often considered as rock chick too. Her collaboration with B.O.B. for the song “Airplanes” became one of the biggest selling singles, thanks tp the nice tune and contribution of Hayley. Hayley still remains a member and vocalist of Paramore.

Chris Martin (Coldplay)
Since 2000, Coldplay became one of the biggest sellibg bands with numerous number one and multi-platinum albums. As vocalist, Chris had the chance to go solo but he remained with Coldplay. However, a finale album of the band is set to release. In 15 years, though, Chris Martin successfully led the band.

Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park)
Mike Shinoda played a big part with Linkin Park’s success. One of two vocalist of the band, he also did side project through Fort Minor. He has all the ability to go solo, still, stayed with Linkin Park which is one of the biggest bands since 2000.

Chester Bennington (Linkin Park)
Along with Mike Shinoda, Chester was also a vocalist of Linkin Park. With his big contribution to the band’s success, Chester stayed with the band as it seems they were like family.

Amy Lee (Evanescence)
One of the best female rock vocalists, Amy Lee once featured in the song “Broken” (Seether). She has everything to become a successful solo artist but stayed with Evanescence, the band which had the mega successful album “Fallen”.

Impressions of Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera on Jimmy Fallon

After watching the impressions of Adam Levine on Jimmy Fallon via YouTube, I watched the impressions of Ariana Grande and Christina Aguilera. Both videos already garnered millions of views with Ariana’s episode as the latest. While Christina Aguilera’s video earned more views knowing it was shown months ago.

Ariana Grande first did Britney Spears with the song Mary Had a Little Lamb. She nailed the impression as she sang it at slow pace. What wowed me was when she imitated Christina Aguilera. I never though she can do the vocal gymnastics of Christina Aguilera, which she was known for. Her impression of Celine Dion singing The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” is a spot on even the way Celine sings live. Admittedly, I am critical of Ariana’s vocal ability. I disagree whenever she was compared to Mariah Carey, knowing MC was one of the greatest female singers when it comes to vocal abilities. She’s even mumbling whenever she sings that I couldn’t understand the words. I also disagree with people I see on TV who are all praises for her voice. The Ariana we hear in her own songs is the real Ariana but that’s not all she can do. She can do better than that. My impression on her ability has now changed.

Then I watched Christina Aguilera’s episode. I already saw her impression before and I just watched it again. Since Christina, no other female singers came up that was at the level of her vocal ability. She was considered to be at a league of singers like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion due to their high vocal range. With regards to her impression, she first sang “The Folgers Song” the Cher way. Well, it’s been very easy for Christina to do that. But the most perfect impression she did was Britney Spears with the song “This Little Piggy” with the tune of “…Baby One More Time”. She was like the real Britney Spears in a Christina Aguilera’s face and clothing. She also nailed Shakira which she sung at the last.

What I am hoping to see in the program was Britney Spears and impression Ariana and Christina. If she did it, surely gain more fans and perception about her ability will change.

Male Singers Voices Mistaken as female

Not all male singers sounds very masculine. In fact, some of them sounds feminine. You will mistake the singer is a female the first time you will hear them. It may be the way the song was sung like singing in falsetto, while others has naturally female voices.

I listed some of these male singers which I initially thought were females:

Bee Gees

Their first song I heard was “Saturday Night Fever”. The song was overloaded with voices in falsetto from the brothers. Then I heard “Emotions” which really sounds like group of ladies singing. Bee Gees was from the 1970s and I was a 90s kid, so naturally, I am not familiar with the group before.

Prince

Back in the 1990s when I first heard of Prince. His famous songs at that time were “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and his own version of “Betcha by Golly Wow”. He sounds like a lady especially at the latter and only found out he’s a guy when I saw his music videos on MTV.

Taylor Hanson of Hanson

Taylor don’t only sounds like a girl but he also looks like a young girl when I first saw Hanson’s “Mmmbop” on MTV. I even find him beautiful until I heard from the VJ as he mentioned “Hanson Brothers” which clarified all of them were boys.

Justin Bieber

When I first saw him at MTV with his music video “One Time”, I am confused if he’s a young girl in a boy’s outfit. The voice even sounds like a young girl. When the name of the artist flashes as “Justin”, I still think he’s a girl because Justin can be a girl’s name too. I only confirmed he’s a boy in the internet.

Adam Levine of Maroon 5

Of course, I am familiar of Adam Levine’s voice. When I heard their song “Maps”, it’s clear to em it’s Adam. However, he sang the song like a lady’s voice. Based on the comments on YouTube, numerous comments stated he sounds like female in that song.

Song Reviews: Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor, R.City

Charlie Puth ft. Meghan Trainor-Marvin Gaye

It was refreshing to hear modern songs with old soulful sound. This is what you can hear in this song, the first single as lead, by Charlie Puth. Inviting Meghan Trainor to be in the song is a good idea, knowing M-Train also take the idea of doo-wop and retro sound in her music. It is a fusion of modern pop and retro that makes the songs ear-friendly. With regard to “Marvin Gaye” which may be a tribute but lyrics were sexual, the music was good with Charlie playing piano and his good voice. With the music video, I was quite disappointed for a reason. Charlie succeeded with the beat or sound and melody.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Meghan Trainor ft. John Legend-Like I’m Gonna Lose You

This is another Meghan Trainor related song after the song above. It is familiar to many about the classic and retro sound of Meghan Trainor and she still incorporated it in this ballad. This is the first ballad released by Meghan and I think she succeeded. It was a beautiful ballad which is like holding on to the person you love. John Legend in it is a good idea. We recently heard him being a feature artist like in Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down”, perhaps due to the success of “All of Me”.

Rating: 8 out of 10

R. City ft. Adam Levine- Locked Away

This is a melodic and catchy song which we often hear on Adam Levine-assisted songs. It is a love song about asking a girl of she will love the guy despite anything or lapses the guy might have done. Maroon 5 used to have catchy tunes and it is present in this song through Adam Levine. But I feel like songs that Adam featured with are too generic. Remember Travie McCoy’s “Stereo Hearts”? They may not exactly have the same chords but the formula with Adam in it makes it similar.
