Adam Levine (Maroon 5)
Maroon 5 had come too far after five successful albums. Numerous hit singles were heard on the radio and includes the recent “Sugar” and their biggest hit ever “Moves Like Jagger”. Songs with repeated word THREE TIMES during the last 20 years

If there are songs with word repeated twice in a song, others are not contented and they repeated a word thrice. R&B group Destiny’s Child is one example who kept repeating a word in their song titles not once but thrice which included “Jumpin’, Jumpin'” (at the ‘word repeated 2x list) and two more songs included in this list.

Destiny’s Child- Bills, Bills, Bills
Formerly quartet at that time, Destiny’s Child asked their men to pay their bills not once but three times. This song became their first US chart-topper.

American Idol alumna Phillip Phillips (his name is also repeated but with ‘s’) attempted to do the trend with this folk/pop/rock song. It was a top 30 hit in the US and was even featured in “Amazing Spiderman 2” soundtrack.

NSYNC- Bye Bye Bye
It was effective for the boyband to repeat ‘bye’ three times as it helped their album became the fastest selling album ever im the US. The song itself filled a space in pop culture when it became successful globally.

Destiny’s Child- No, No, No
If Destiny’s Child carrier single repeated ‘bills’ three times, theur carrier single for their debut LP repeated ‘no’ three times and ‘yeah’ three times in its chorus. It became a top five hit in some countries worldwide.

Duffy- Well, Well, Well
The singer from Wales released this song intended to follow up her highly successful “Rockferry” but her effort to duplicate its success turned out to be the opposite. ‘Well’, it didn’t do ‘well’.

Paramore- Crushcrushcrush
The rock band released this quite cheesy song but successfully ‘crushed’ certain charts. Perhaps the repeated word ‘crush’ and making it into one word worked.

Songs with Repeated Word TWICE in its Title During the Last 20 Years

Repeated words in a song can have its good effect for musicians as they can easily linger on ones mind. Many artists adapt it in their music and most of these hits became huge hits. During the last 20 years, here are some of those songs with repeated word twice in its title.

Black Eyed Peas- Boom Boom Pow
The song may have another word (pow) in the title but ‘boom’was mentioned twice. It was effective for the hip-hop group as at that time it was released, it was their longest number 1 hit (in Billboard Hot 100) for a staggering 12 weeks.

Hot Chelle Rae- Tonight, Tonight
The pop/rock group finally scored their first hit with “Tonight, Tonight” and it seems the formula of repeating ‘tonight’ in the song is effective. It went to top 10 in a number of official charts worldwide.

Maroon 5- Goodnight, Goodnight
Maroon 5 is saying ‘goodnight’and said it twice. The pop/rock song performed moderately in different charts.

Santana ft. The Product G&B- Maria, Maria
Santana incorporated different genres in his “Supernatural” album and this song was R&B influenced. Repeating the name “Maria” is effective as this song topped the US for several weeks.

M2M- Mirror, Mirror
This song sounds so sweet and innocent brought out by the sweet vocals from the duo. The first line of the chorus pertains to Snow White popular phrase “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall” which helped the song to enter charts especially in Asia where it is a number 1 hit there.

Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith- La, La
This Naughty Boy and Sam Smith hit garnered millions of sales and hundreds of millions of views on YouTube due to its catchy tune and the repeated word ‘la, la’.

Jessie J., Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande- Bang Bang
Among in this list, this song is the latest one. The collaboration from the three ladies eventually became a huge hit and mostly played in TV shows.

Destiny’s Child- Jumpin’, Jumpin’
It’s not new for Destiny’s Child at that time to repeat words in their songs as they did it their songs prior to this. It quickly reached the top 10 in several countries.

Sugababes- Round, Round
British girl group Sugababes turned around in this songs which effectively topped the charts their hometown and across Europe.

Top 7 Female Band vocalist

It is rare to see female leading a band with male members. Oftentimes, they even made their band more successful since the camera is within them mostly than their bandmates playing the instruments. I listed some of these band vocalist who led their bands successfully.

Shirley Manson- From second half of 1990s, the band Garbage was led by this girl named Shirley who was also considered one of the top fashion icons as shown in some MTV shows. The band becane successful too scoring hits like “Milk”, “I Think I’m Paranoid, etc. They even sang the James Band hit “The World is Not Enough”. The secret to the band’s success? Of course it’s Shirley Manson.

Selena Gomez- Many of you might think she’s an artist of her own, but yes, she is now. Before? No. As we often hear ‘Selena Gomez and The Scene”‘, it’sa band which was led by Selena. It was a testament of Selena’s leadership as the band scored multiple top 10 albums and top 40 hits.

Dolores O’ Riordan- This lady have such a beautiful and rare voice. Among all the ladies in this list, she has the most beautiful voice for me. Well, she successfully led the band during the 1990s and created beautiful hit songs such as “Linger”, “Zombie” and a lot more. Their album “No Need to Argue” is among the best selling albums during the first half of 1990s. Thanks to Dolores who’s very much credited for their success.

Gwen Stefani- Apart from successful solo career, Gwen led No Doubt successfully as well. Their album “Tragic Kingdom” is among the biggest sellers for 1997, while big comeback came in 2002 after a moderate success of “Return of the Saturn”. The band never broke up, just in state of hiatus and she remained the band’s vocalist.

Florence Welch- One of the acclaimed bands recently, Florence & the Machine led by Florence Welch sold millions of albums. My favorite song from this band is “Dog Days are Over”. Undeniably, Florence have a beautiful voice which led the band’s success.

Hailey Williams- From the hard-rocking of “Misery Business” to a light and fun sound of “Ain’t it Fun”, the band scored many hit songs and hot selling albums. Hailey was also featured in songs by B.O.B. with “Airplanes” which was big hit, and Zedd. Well, she can make it as solo artist, yet she loves her band.

Amy Lee- Whether rock or ballad, her voice is very haunting that it was like taking you to the Gothic life. I wonder where she is now, but hoping for a new album of Evanescence that will take you back to their “Fallen” era.

Popular Songs About Money

Many believes money can give you happiness while others don’t believe it. Some music artists had created such songs whether craving for money or it’s not what makes them money. Hereare some of the popular songs that talks about money.

The Beatles- Can’t Buy Me Love
The fab four went out with this song emphasizing that money can’t buy love. The song written by Paul McCartney, knows the real interpretation of the song.

Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars- Billionaire
As everybody wanted to be rich, some people wanted to be a billionaire not just a millionaire through this collaboration from Travie and Mars. The song became multi-platinum after reaching top 10 in several territories.

Power of Adele

British songstress Adele is currently breaking records in music charts worldwide, and based on digital sales on iTunes, her current hit “Hello” was number one in more than a hundred countries. It thus show the power of Adele’s music to many people from around the world. Her influence in music reached its height as her song touched not only the ordinary fans but even fellow celebrities expressed their love for the song as seen posted on Twitter. Expectedly, her upcoming album which is simply entitled as “25” (following a pattern after “19” and “21”) will break records as “Hello” did.

How could someone like Adele touches people’s heart. There are assumed reasons why her music was loved by people even from any ages.

• Adele’s vocal prowess. Her voice is haunting and powerful that no other artists can. Her range is high but not to the point of oversinging and not painful to the ears. Even fellow singers believed she has one of the best voices in the industry at the moment.

• She sings from the heart. You can feel the pain in her way of singing. As we all know her songs were mostly about heartbreak, the pain is still present and listeners can feel that.

• Her heartbreak songs. Heaps of people are experiencing heartbreaks which led them to listen to her music. She may be compared to Taylor Swift for her heartbreak songs but she talked about only one guy, unlike Tay. Likewise, she’s more convincing with her pain in her songs.

• She doesn’t need gimmicks. Many pop stars today succeeded after some gimmicks but she doesn’t have to try so hard to sell.

• She performs like telling a story. Unlike other artists who performs with too much production, Adele just stand there and tell her story which is more intimate.

• She doesn’t have to show much skin. Many female singers shows so much flesh or even come to a point to get naked but Adele don’t have to do that.

• Less is more. She may be showing less but the impact is heavier. Just listen to her with open heart and you’ll know.

Recap: Your Face Sounds Familiar 2 November 1, 2015

After a great episode last night, the fun continues today for three more artists are set to perform again. Yesterday, five artists had shown their impersonation of music icons and most of them hit it, though some had missed.

Tonight’s performers were:

Sam Concepcion as James Reid
After being at the bottom last week, Sam is ready to redeem himself through impersonating a rising pop star and already a huge actor James Reid. It may have helped that Sam and James are best friends but copying someone you’re closed to is not that easy. It shows how Sam nailed the performance. However, James don’t have the identity that really suits a huge pop star except his innocent look which Sam never failed. Voice and movements are really James so it’s a good performance

Denise Laurel as Toni Braxton
She became a guy last week as one of the judges Jed Madela. But this week, she’s the sultry R&B icon Toni Braxton. Denise was obviously discouraged with her performance after missing some words at the beginning which affected her performance. Nevertheless, her looks is good. The voice may not be a spot on but she carried it knowing Toni’s amazing voice is hard to copy

KZ Tandingan as Abra
KZ becomes a man. Not just a man as she did what everybody could not do which is rapping. It can be understood that she doesn’t sound like Abra, but the attitude is very good. I may not be totally impressed with the impersonation but I enjoyed the performance. It reminded me of the time when I was a huge hip-hop fan.

All of the artists had finally performed, and based on their performances, my ranking for their performances were:
1. Kakai Bautista
2. KZ Tandingan
3. Eric Nicolas
4. Sam Concepcion
5. Myrtle Sarosa
6. Denise Laurel
7. Kean Cipriano
8. Michael Pangilinan

The turnout of rankings below:
1. KZ Tandingan
2. Kakai Bautista
3. Kean Cipriano
4. Myrtle Sarosa
5. Eric Nicolas
6. Sam Concepcion
7. Denise Laurel
8. Michael Pangilinan

Kakai and Kean were actually tie with their total points. Next week is expected to be another great episode so I am looking forward for that again.

Your Face Sounds Familiar 2 airs every Saturday and Sunday night on ABS-CBN 2.
