My friend, Kate, and I met about three years ago in Tennessee. My husband was stationed there, and I was attending the local college. We ended up in the same history class, and we’ve been friends ever since. Even after I moved away, we still talk constantly. She is so easy to talk to, and she is good at keeping my secrets. I’m glad to have her in my life.
Today, I got a Christmas present in the mail from her, and it made me feel so special.
First, she sent a stuffed sheep for my little no-name in my belly. That was so sweet of her.
Then, she bought my daughter two books: one is a massive compilation of nursery rhymes and kids’ stories, and the other is a kind of “Goodnight” book with some super cute illustrations.
For me, she sent a gorgeous copy of Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytales. It’s all embossed in gold, and I love it! She also got me a necklace that has two clocks on it. One is set to my timezone, and the other is set to her time. I thought that was such a cute idea. She also got me a little Tennessee-shaped keychain to remind me of her. She said she has a matching one, too, which I love.
I think it just really made an impression on me. I know that we’re friends, and we basically talk everyday. But I didn’t know that I was so important to her. And it was a nice feeling. I have been feeling so lonely since moving to Colorado, and I know that, on my end, I really need this relationship. But she has tons of friends and coworkers that she talks to everyday. It makes me glad to know that I am just as important to her.
So, yeah. She’s an awesome friend. I’m lucky to have her.
