Picture-Taking With Toddlers

I mentioned in an earlier post that I had taken a two and a half hour drive to visit some family.

While we were there, they told me that they wanted to take pictures with all the small kids. I knew that my kid would be trouble because she is scared of strangers, and she isn’t used to any of her cousins. So I was kind of dreading it, but I went along with the plan.

First, we hit up Old Navy for some little matching outfits. We went for fall clothes because that’s the season we’re in right now. We got my nephew a little cardigan with some khakis, and we bought my daughter a tan dress with some leggings and little flats. The clothes were so adorable! My husband’s cousin was going to meet us there, and she said she had clothes for her two daughters that were also going to be in the pictures.

The problem started when my daughter fell asleep on the car ride. She is always really grumpy when she first wakes up, so she had a screaming fit when I woke her up to change her into fancy clothes. She was so angry, and she fought me all the way through the process. Then, the shoes we bought her didn’t even fit her, so I had to put some random shoes on her. I was so bummed.

When we got into the picture place, the lady scared my daughter really badly, so she cried and wouldn’t go in front of the back drop. She was only in two of the seven poses we tried with the kids. I was so bummed. Then, one of the pictures she’s in, she’s bawling her eyes out. On top of it all, I had to pay twenty five bucks for these pictures that I probably won’t even want.

It was just a huge mess. I’m glad that the whole thing is over. I think I’ll just stick to doing my own portraits of my little one from now on. That was just too much stress!
