With National Novel Writing Month (November) coming up, I find myself getting excited. I wanted to participate last year, but a few things got in my way. Plus, I didn’t know about the event until it was already November 1st, so I didn’t have any time to prepare.
This year, I am planning to do a much better job. It is my dream to write and publish a novel, and this event gives me the push I need. I know that I won’t create a perfect work of art in the month, but it will push me to get through a first draft. From there, I can get editing, and I can work on making it good enough to publish. I hope to create something good enough to be turned into an eBook that people can download to their Kindle or other similar device. I just hope I can do it.
So… here is my novel idea:
I want to write a story from the perspective of an imaginary friend. This fictional girl will have been the loyal companion to a small boy, but he will be getting older. And, with his age, he will stop believing in the imaginary friend. The girl will be so frustrated, and she will do everything in her power to keep from fading away.
However, she will realize that there is no hope for staying with the boy. He isn’t going to go back to the way things were. So she will move on. Her time will be limited though. Imaginary friends only have a short window of time to get a new friend before they are pulled into the “other world” where they will have to stay permanently.
I’m not really sure how things will end, and I don’t want to create a really strict outline in case the story deviates. You never know where your writing will take you.
Anyway… that’s my goal for November! Will you be doing NaNoWriMo? I hope to see you there!
