I didn’t get to go out hunting this year, though most hunters around here were successful. I’m still hoping that someone will bring me some venison. We’ve already started out snowier than normal, too, and if this keeps up, I just hope that enough animals were taken to make enough of a difference so that at least most of the rest survive the winter.
Crater Lake National Park in Oregon just broke the snowfall record for the snowiest December. They recorded 196.7 inches of snow, which breaks the old record of 196.0 inches, which was set back in 1948. That tells me that our above normal snowfall isn’t isolated to Montana. It is going to be hard on the deer and elk herds this year. We need more hunters so more animals can survive the winters.
