I think @iyanpol nailed some of the reasons people (myself included) have been scarce on BlogJob. Maybe it never was a way to make a steady, reliable income but it used to be an excellent way to supplement income, and with the reductions in points followed by this suspension of rewards it isn’t even that. I viewed my writing as professional-ish…[Read more]

  • I’m about as sensitive as a sack of potatoes but I’ve seen the ghost of Susie, my first tortoiseshell cat,at least two times. How can I *not* believe in ghosts?

Off to my job at the textbook store! Let’s see if there’s actually stuff for me to do today! You know, besides reading textbooks!

  • Jessica replied to the topic Ignoring group invites in the forum Help and Support 3 years ago

I ignore a good 90% of group invites because I honestly couldn’t contribute anything to said group. I’m not rude *about* it, like I don’t post a status update saying “I will only accept invites to these groups and I will be very offended if you invite me to these other groups!” Never apologize for knowing your limits!

  • While it’s sad that we have to be cynical and guarded, that really is the only way to get through life. The good news is that it’s a special thing when we find people we can trust.

I believe in that too! I don’t think it’s too niche for BlogJob; I have a blog for talking about the supernatural, religion/spirituality, interesting maybe-fictional entities, and the end of the world. Good luck with your book! Do you have a publisher in mind?

    • Llewellyn would be ideal, although the readers are more likely to be Hay House types that are awakening. I have a blog and it does okay (I don’t monetize that one) but I do get people that ask for readings.

  • Jessica replied to the topic Friend Requests in the forum Help and Support 3 years ago

The way I deal with friend requests in general is to check the notifications, hit “Delete”, and then only check them when I’m ready to accept or reject. I’ve only rejected people who advertise their online business with no other content. Of course we all do a bit of online business promotion, but I mean that it’s the only thing they write about.…[Read more]

In other frustrating news, I have no idea what I want to do about graduate school. Right now I’m in limbo and it just sucks! I just want to wake up with all sorts of degrees and employers crawling at my feet begging me to bring my expertise to their company! Is that too much to ask?

    • I have no idea if this still works. I would do the teaching. That gives you something to fall back on. From teaching, admin is a route you can still take. The thing about teaching is that in England this is one area where you can find employment.

Argh! So most of the movies I want to see are either in the summer or fall deluge and not, you know, in the next few weeks…And all the movies I want to watch on DVD or streaming are not even a thing…And the cutest actor ever has a girlfriend who’s probably the worst…And just ugh! When will I get some good news in entertainment?

  • My mom is sensitive to spirits and vibes. Even though she’s a little weird in some of her personal beliefs (“Everything must be natural!” and she doesn’t go to the doctor unless she’s literally near death because it’s not “holistic” enough…), I kind of think that aspect is pretty neat. She’s used that to keep family and our cats (who are also…[Read more]

Cynthia Owens, I feel you, I really do. I’ve been here for a year (actually longer, but I haven’t been keeping a running total to give an exact date) and it is so hit or miss. Some days I feel like I can’t keep up with replying to people and doing additional interaction (which is fun though because it’s popularity and that really boosts a…[Read more]

Hey Anne Farmer, I’m also hurting (mentally) from these changes. They may be well-intended but since finding out about them I’ve lost some enthusiasm for contributing serious work (such as blog posts and longer comments). I also felt alone in thinking “Well, how is this going to inspire us to do better?” when I saw that most of our blogging…[Read more]

  • Jessica replied to the topic Paid Blogging Sites in the forum General Discussion 3 years ago

I haven’t found any good blogging sites, but I highly recommend the PTC website Clixsense. The cash-out minimum is $8 (but they charge a user fee, so try to cash out around 8.50 or so). I’ve done two or three cash-outs this year, so I can vouch for the legitimacy.
