Homemade Gingersnaps with Cinnamon Dip

Many times when  you are invited to holiday parties, you are asked to bring an hor d’oeuvre.  If you are like me, you are sick of the same old vegetable tray with ranch dip or potato chips and French onion dip.  You long for something really different and delicious.  I have it for you!

Homemade Gingersnaps with Cinnamon Dip

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 table spoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 cups flour

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. In an electric mixer, combine sugar, molasses, butter ginger, cinnamon, eggs and baking soda on medium
  3. Add vinegar and vanilla
  4. Add flour and beat for two minutes
  5. Dust your counter with flour and roll out dough to about 1/4 of an inch
  6. Cut with cookie cutters or use a mason jar lid for round cookies
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until crisp
  8. Remove from oven and let cool

Cinnamon Dip

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  1. With an electric mixture, combine all ingredients and beat for 3 minutes or until completely smooth
  2. Transfer to a serving bowl, sprinkle some cinnamon on top and refrigerate

This hor d’oeuvre is so different and delicious, I guarantee that your host will be blown away, along with  your fellow party goers!

Whenever I take dip to a party, I always like to bring it in a matching bowl and tray.  I just think it looks so much better, and it also helps out the hostess because she doesn’t have to search around for a tray and bowl to use to serve your dish.  One of my very favorite dish and tray sets is made by Portmeirion.  It is plain white, so it highlights whatever you put on it.  It is really pretty!

These sounds yummy! do you think they will still taste okay without adding the cinnamon?

You could probably replace it with Allspice or Pumpkin Pie Spice or whatever spice you like. Make a batch without the cinnamon and see how it tastes.
