RX-77-2 Guncannon – A Baoa Qu Last Battle Type – Custom Built Gunpla
Model builder shinn showcased his custom built RX-77-2 Guncannon, using the Master Grade 1/100 gunpla as the base model for his kitbash. According to some of the translated information (via Google Translate; don’t count on accuracy!) provided by the model builder, this particular custom Guncannon was meant to be deployed in the decisive battle of A Baoa Qu, where the forces of Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon would clash for one final time at a massive asteroid fortress of the same name, ultimately leading to the surrender of Zeon and subsequent end of the One Year War.
Due to the expected heavy resistance by Zeon forces on A Baoa Qu, the Guncannon was refitted and upgraded with increased firepower and survivability in mind. The Guncannon’s signature BAUVA XBR-L Experimental Beam Rifle has been fitted with an underslung gatling gun; the chain-fed ammo drum was mounted on the back of the Guncannon’s lower torso. The Guncannon’s other signature namesake weapon, the dual mounted 240mm Cannon seems to have additional vulcan guns mounted on its side.
Shinn has really gone above and beyond in making the details on his custom Guncannon come to life and easily puts the stock appearance of the original base model from Bandai to shame! I noticed that shinn had replaced the Guncannon’s bulky ‘water cooler’ booster pack with a more conventional looking type commonly seen with RX-78-2 Gundam and RGM-79 GM mobile suits, which is really a welcome change that I like. Furthermore, he added fuel pods to the booster pack and connector wires attached to the 240mm Cannon!
